Tikkurila
Tikkurila (; sv, Dickursby) is a district and major region of the municipality of Vantaa, Finland. Located in the eastern half of the Helsinki conurbation, some north of the capital's downtown district, it is the administrative and commercial hub of Vantaa, although Myyrmäki is a rival commercial hub within the municipality. Tikkurila's most popular attraction is the science center Heureka. Tikkurila railway station is the busiest in Vantaa and third-busiest in Finland. As the nearest mainline station to Helsinki Airport (located from Tikkurila), it is served by all the high-speed Pendolino trains on the Helsinki to Tampere and Lahti routes as well as other long-distance services. Tikkurila (corporation)
Tikkurila Oyj is a Finnish manufacturer of paints and lacquers. The main office and most of the production is located in Kuninkaala (neighboring district to Tikkurila), Vantaa near Helsinki. The company was founded in 1862 as ''Dickursby Oljeslageri'' to produce linseed oil and varnish, and was acquired by the Helsinki company Schildt & Hallberg in 1885. As ''Schildt & Hallberg Oy'', it started producing paints in 1919, eventually rising to the position of the largest paint manufacturer in Finland. In 1972, the Finnish chemical conglomerate Kemira (then ''Rikkihappo Oy'') acquired the company, and started the expansion and modernization of the production plant, which was moved a bit further from Tikkurila center; the old plant was demolished in the 1980s. Tikkurila Railway Station
Tikkurila station ( fi, Tikkurilan rautatieasema, sv, Dickursby station) is located in Tikkurila, the administrative centre of Vantaa in the Helsinki metropolitan area. It is located approximately from Helsinki Central railway station and from Helsinki Airport. The station is considered the main railway station of Vantaa, and almost all long-distance and commuter trains stop here. Tikkurila was one of the first seven railway stations in Finland constructed together with the country's first railway between Helsinki and Hämeenlinna in 1862. It was also the only one apart from the two terminus stations to be built out of brick and not wood. Helsinki Commuter Rail
Helsinki commuter rail ( fi, Helsingin seudun lähijunaliikenne, sv, Huvudstadsregionens närtrafik) is a commuter rail system serving Greater Helsinki and the surrounding county of Uusimaa. The system is a joint venture between the regional transport authority HSL and national railway operator VR. The system operates on four railway lines and comprises 13 services, all of which terminate at Helsinki Central Station. Within the HSL region, tickets and timetables are fully integrated with other modes of public transport. Four services extend into the operational area of VR commuter rail – tickets issued by VR are needed for journeys further north from Zone D. Both parties discontinued onboard ticket sales in 2017. Heureka
Heureka is a Finnish science center in the Tikkurila district of Vantaa, Finland, north of Helsinki, designed by Heikkinen – Komonen Architects. It is located at the intersection of the Finnish Main Line and the river Keravanjoki. The aim of the science centre, which opened its doors to the public in 1989, is to popularise scientific information and to develop the methods used to teach science and scientific concepts. The science centre provides opportunities to become familiar with science and technology through varying exhibitions, a planetarium, an idea workshop, educational programs and events. The core idea of Heureka is to "provide the joy of discovery to everyone". Heureka is one of the largest leisure centres in Finland, with about 300 thousand visitors per year. Lahti
