''The Satanic Satanist'' is the fourth studio album by American rock band Portugal. The Man. The album's artwork is a combination of photographs and watercolor illustrations by lead singer John Gourley. On June 1, 2009, the band released the song "People Say" for free download on their official website. On June 24, 2009, the album leaked on the Internet. Lead singer John Gourley posted a blog entry regarding the leak on the band's official website. The statement encouraged fans to download the album, but to also support the band and purchase the record upon release if enjoyed. John Gourley
John Baldwin Gourley (born June 12, 1981) is an American musician, singer, and songwriter from Alaska. He is the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of the rock band Portugal. The Man, with the hit song "Feel It Still". Gourley was previously the lead singer in post-hardcore band, Anatomy of a Ghost. Gourley is also a visual artist, who often uses the alias The Fantastic The. Life and career Gourley was born in 1981 in Willow, Alaska, to John T. Gourley and Jennifer Van Ingen. He and his two siblings grew up in Alaska moving from town to town, wherever their father's contracting business took the family. Gourley's parents both competed in the Iditarod, and for a while the family lived in a remote "off the grid" cabin accessible only by dogsled. Psychedelic Pop
Psychedelic pop (or acid pop) is pop music that contains musical characteristics associated with psychedelic music. Developing in the late 1960s, elements included " trippy" features such as fuzz guitars, tape manipulation, backwards recording, sitars, and Beach Boys-style harmonies, wedded to melodic songs with tight song structures. The style lasted into the early 1970s. It has seen revivals in subsequent decades by neo-psychedelic artists. ''The Majestic Majesty'' is the acoustic accompaniment to Portugal. The Man's fourth full-length album ''The Satanic Satanist'' and features all of the album's songs performed acoustically, except the track "Let You Down." This release marks the first official release of any acoustic Portugal. The Man songs, often requested by fans and something for which the band had been renowned. The album's artwork is a contour line drawing of the artwork for The Satanic Satanist, itself a watercolor by the band's lead singer, John Gourley The album was released digitally, and made available to purchase through the band's merchnow store, and the iTunes and Amazon music stores in the deluxe version of The Satanic Satanist.
