''The Child in Time'' (1987) is a novel by Ian McEwan. The story concerns Stephen, an author of children's books, and his wife, two years after the kidnapping of their three-year-old daughter Kate. ''The Child in Time'' divided critics. It won the Whitbread Novel Award for 1987 and has sometimes been declared one of McEwan's greatest novels, but others criticise the book as heavy-handed. Crouch End is an area of North London, approximately from the City of London in the western half of the borough of Haringey. It is within the Hornsey postal district (N8). It has been described by the BBC as one of "a new breed of urban villages" in London. Metacritic is a website that review aggregator, aggregates reviews of films, TV shows, music albums, video games and formerly, books. For each product, the scores from each review are averaged (a weighted arithmetic mean, weighted average). Metacritic was created by Jason Dietz, Marc Doyle, and Julie Doyle Roberts in 1999. The site provides an excerpt from each review and hyperlinks to its source. A color of green, yellow or red summarizes the critics' recommendations. It is regarded as the foremost online review aggregation site for the video game industry. Metacritic's scoring converts each review into a percentage, either mathematically from the mark given, or what the site decides subjectively from a qualitative review. Elgin Avenue
Elgin Avenue is a street in Maida Vale in London. Located in the City of Westminster, it runs east to west from the A5 road (Great Britain), A5 road close to Maida Vale tube station west to the Maida Hill area where it meets the Harrow Road. Sutherland Avenue runs roughly parallel to the south and is connected to Elgin Avenue by Lauderdale Road. The road continues east of the A5 as Abercorn Place which runs through St. John's Wood. The area was built as part of the rapid expansion of London in the first half of the nineteenth century. It was laid out as part of a plan for the area by the architect George Gutch in 1827, who envisaged a series of long Avenue (landscape), avenues. Maida Vale ( ) is an affluent residential district consisting of the northern part of Paddington in West London, west of St John's Wood and south of Kilburn. Shingle Street is a coastal settlement on the North Sea coast of the English county of Suffolk. It is north-east of Felixstowe and east of Ipswich at the mouth of the River Ore and opposite the tip of Orford Ness. It is within the parish of Hollesley with HM Young Offender Institution Hollesley Bay Colony nearby. A report from October 2004 suggests that Shingle Street is at risk from coastal erosion and flooding and could disappear within 20 years if sea defences are not erected. History Shingle Street was originally a home for fishermen and river pilots for the River Ore. Early in the 19th century a Martello tower was built, which was later a home for coastguards.
