The company was founded in 1767. The company's headquarters and factory, Terry's Chocolate Works, was closed by Kraft in 2005. Terry's Chocolate Orange is a chocolate product created by Terry's in 1932 at Terry's Chocolate Works in York, England. The brand has changed ownership several times, and production was moved to Eastern Europe in 2005. Since 2018, the Terry's Chocolate Orange has been produced in Strasbourg, France, by Carambar. Development Chemist Joseph Terry joined a York sweets company in 1823, where he developed new lines of chocolate, candied peel, and marmalade. In 1830 he became sole owner of the business and following his death it was eventually passed to his sons, including Joseph Jr. who managed the company. In 1895 it became Joseph Terry and Sons Ltd., with directors including Joseph Jr. and his own son Thomas. Joseph Terry
Sir Joseph Terry (7 January 182812 January 1898) was a British confectioner, industrialist and Conservative politician who served as Lord Mayor of York on three occasions. He had previously served as a deputy mayor through his role as town sheriff in 1870, and served as Councillor for York's Monk Ward from 1860 until this appointment. He further acted as a Justice of the Peace for both the City of York and the North Riding of Yorkshire from 1887 until his death. He is widely seen as the driving force behind the success of the confectionery company Terry's, originally co-founded by his father, through the expansion of business operations through the use of the Humber Estuary to import essential commodities such as sugar and cocoa. Later in his career, he would oversee the company's transition and specialization into a chocolatiers. 3 St Helen's Square
3 St Helen's Square is a historic building in the city centre of York, in England. In 1818, the confectionery business of Bayldon and Berry had a shop at 3 St Helen's Square. In 1828, the company became Terry's of York, and later in the century, the firm added a restaurant to the building. In 1922, the building was demolished and reconstructed to a design by Lewis Wade, adding a ballroom on the top floor of the venue. External events were also catered from the building, including the 1961 wedding of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent to Katharine Worsley. In 1974, the building was grade II listed. Pocklington is a market town and civil parish situated at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The 2011 Census recorded its population as 8,337. Walmgate
Walmgate is a street in the city centre of York, in England. During the Medieval period, the street was the site of a seafissh and cattle market. Walmgate Bar, was involved in the Siege of York in 1644, during the First English Civil War. During the 20th century, many of the older buildings were cleared away and newer structures put up. History The street lay outside Roman Eboracum, and although it was crossed by a Roman road, evidence of occupation in the period is limited to two wharfs on the River Foss, and some burials.
