The Tata Xover (pronounced "crossover") is a 7-seat crossover SUV concept car created by the Indian automaker Tata Motors. It was first introduced at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show. The Xover is long and designed to accept Tata's next generation Euro IV compliant powertrains. In January 2010, the Xover's real market version was launched with minor changes in the AutoExpo in New Delhi, India. It has been launched as the Tata Aria. Most of the body design remains unchanged except for the grill, headlamps and minor cosmetics. A crossover, crossover SUV, or crossover utility vehicle (CUV) is a type of automobile with an increased ride height that is built on unibody chassis construction shared with passenger cars, as opposed to traditional sport utility vehicles (SUV) which are built on a body-on-frame chassis construction similar to pickup trucks. A term that originated from North America, the term crossover was initially used for any vehicle that blends characteristics between two different kinds of vehicles while, over time, crossover mostly refers to unibody-based SUVs. A concept car (also known as a concept vehicle, show vehicle or prototype) is a car made to showcase new styling and/or new technology. They are often exhibited at motor shows to gauge customer reaction to new and radical designs which may or may not be mass-produced. General Motors designer Harley Earl is generally credited with inventing the concept car, and did much to popularize it through its traveling Motorama shows of the 1950s. Concept cars never go into production directly. In modern times all would have to undergo many changes before the design is finalized for the sake of practicality, safety, regulatory compliance, and cost. The Tata Aria is a SUV manufactured by Tata Motors of India. Tata Aria was launched on 5 January 2010 at Auto Expo, Delhi, and was launched to customers on 12 October 2010 and prices started at 10.4 lakhs INR Ex showroom or (16k-17k USD).
