Tadeusz Łomnicki
Tadeusz Łomnicki (; 18 July 1927 – 22 February 1992) was a Polish actor, one of the most notable stage and film artists of his time in Poland. He is remembered mostly for his roles in comedies and dramas, as well as for the role of Kordian in Juliusz Słowacki's play of the same title. He was also a notable professor and a rector of the State Theatre School in Warsaw. Biography Born on 18 July 1927 in Podhajce near Lwów (modern Lviv, Ukraine), to a family of a post office clerk and a teacher. After graduating from a trade school in Dębica he moved to Kraków, where he started to work as railway worker and study violin play. There he spent World War II and fought against the Germans in the ranks of the Grey Ranks. ''Colonel Wolodyjowski'' ( pl, Pan Wołodyjowski) is a 1969 Polish historical drama film directed by Jerzy Hoffman. The film is based on the novel ''Pan Wołodyjowski'', by the Polish writer and Nobel laureate Henryk Sienkiewicz. Czesław Petelski (5 November 1922 – 19 September 1996) was a Polish film director and screenwriter. He directed 25 films between 1953 and 1990. His 1963 film '' Black Wings'' was entered into the 3rd Moscow International Film Festival where it won a Silver Prize. In 1965 he was a member of the jury at the 4th Moscow International Film Festival. His 1973 film ''Copernicus'' was entered into the 8th Moscow International Film Festival where it won the Silver Prize. He often worked together with his wife Ewa Petelska. Andrzej Munk (16 October 1921 – 20 September 1961) was a Polish film director, screen writer and documentalist. He was one of the most influential artists of the post-Stalinist period in the People's Republic of Poland. His feature films '' Man on the Tracks'' (''Człowiek na torze'', 1956), '' Eroica'' (''Heroism'', 1958), '' Bad Luck'' (''Zezowate szczęście'', 1960), and ''Passenger'' (''Pasażerka'' 1963), are considered classics of the Polish Film School developed in mid-1950s. ''Eroica'' (released in some territories as ''Heroism'') is a 1958 Polish film by Andrzej Munk, and his second feature film after Man on the Tracks (1956). ''Eroica'' is composed of two separate stories, presenting satirical critiques of two aspects of the Polish character: acquisitive opportunism, and a romantic fascination for heroic martyrs. The film’s title is an ironic reference to Ludwig van Beethoven”s Third Symphony, which the composer initially dedicated to then French head Consulate Napoleon Bonaparte. ''Innocent Sorcerers'' ( pl, Niewinni czarodzieje) is a 1960 Polish psychological romantic drama film directed by Andrzej Wajda, and starring Tadeusz Łomnicki and Krystyna Stypułkowska. Its plot follows a young doctor and jazz drummer meeting a mysterious girl, who all but forces herself into his apartment where they talk of morals and love. Polish Film School ( pl, Polska Szkoła Filmowa) refers to an informal group of Polish film directors and screenplay writers active between 1956 and approximately 1963. Among the most prominent representatives of the school are Andrzej Wajda, Andrzej Munk and Jerzy Kawalerowicz. Overview The group was under the heavy influence of Italian neorealists. It took advantage of the liberal changes in Poland after 1956 Polish October to portray the complexity of Polish history during World War II and German occupation. Andrzej Witold Wajda (; 6 March 1926 – 9 October 2016) was a Polish film and theatre director. Erwin Axer (1 January 1917 – 5 August 2012) was a Polish theatre director, writer and university professor. A long-time head of Teatr Współczesny (Contemporary Theatre) in Warsaw, he also staged numerous plays abroad, notably in German-speaking countries, in the USA and Leningrad (USSR).
