Heroism (film)
''Eroica'' (released in some territories as ''Heroism'') is a 1958 Polish film by Andrzej Munk, and his second feature film after Man on the Tracks (1956). ''Eroica'' is composed of two separate stories, presenting satirical critiques of two aspects of the Polish character: acquisitive opportunism, and a romantic fascination for heroic martyrs. The film’s title is an ironic reference to Ludwig van Beethoven”s Third Symphony, which the composer initially dedicated to then French head Consulate Napoleon Bonaparte. When Napoleon declared himself Emperor, Beethoven, a devout republican, withdrew the dedication in disgust and titled the work simply “Eroica.” ''Eroica'' premiered on Polish Television in 1972 and depicts wartime couriers crossing the Tatra Mountains. Eroica won the FIPRESCI Award at the 1959 Mar del Plata Film Festival. Andrzej Munk
Andrzej Munk (16 October 1921 – 20 September 1961) was a Polish film director, screen writer and documentalist. He was one of the most influential artists of the post-Stalinist period in the People's Republic of Poland. His feature films '' Man on the Tracks'' (''Człowiek na torze'', 1956), '' Eroica'' (''Heroism'', 1958), '' Bad Luck'' (''Zezowate szczęście'', 1960), and '' Passenger'' (''Pasażerka'' 1963), are considered classics of the Polish Film School developed in mid-1950s. Tragicomedy
Tragicomedy is a literary genre that blends aspects of both tragedy, tragic and comedy, comic forms. Most often seen in drama, dramatic literature, the term can describe either a tragic play which contains enough comic elements to lighten the overall mood or a serious play with a happy ending. Tragicomedy, as its name implies, invokes the intended response of both the tragedy and the comedy in the audience, the former being a genre based on human suffering that invokes an accompanying catharsis and the latter being a genre intended to be humorous or amusing by inducing laughter. Witold Pyrkosz
Witold Pyrkosz (24 December 1926 – 22 April 2017) was a Polish actor. He was best known as Lucjan Mostowiak in Polish TV series "M jak miłość", as Pyzdra in " Janosik", as Wichura in "Czterej pancerni i pies", as Balcerek in "Alternatywy 4" and he was also a voice actor of Tow Mater in Polish dubbing of Pixar's Cars series. ↵His official birth certificate says that he was born on 1 January 1927 in Lwów; however, he stated that this was done purposely: the date was changed to delay his compulsory conscription for a year, while his mother registered his birthplace as Lwów because it "sounded more regal". In 1974, Pyrkosz was decorated with the Gold Cross of Merit and in 1984, with the Knight's Cross of Polonia Restituta. In 2009, he received the Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis. Stanisław Bareja
Stanisław Sylwester Bareja (5 December 1929 – 14 June 1987) was a Polish filmmaker. Some of his films (mostly comedies) have reached cult status in Poland. His most famous film is ''Teddy Bear'' (''Miś''), filmed in 1980. His last work was ''Zmiennicy'', a TV series completed in 1986 and aired in 1987. On 21 September 2006 Bareja was posthumously awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta by President Lech Kaczynski and in 2005, a street in Warsaw was named after Stanislaw Bareja. Bogumił Kobiela (31 May 1931 – 10 July 1969) was a Polish stage and film actor. He was an actor of , Ateneum Theatre in Warsaw, Komedia Theatre in Warsaw, Bim-Bom student theatre, Kabaret Wagabunda and Kabaret Dudek. He suffered serious injuries in a car crash on 2 July 1969 in Buszkowo. He died eight days later in hospital in Gdańsk. Roman Kłosowski (14 February 1929 – 11 June 2018) was a Polish character actor and stage director. Biography He was born on February 14, 1929, in Biała Podlaska. Graduate of the Aleksander Zelwerowicz National Academy of Dramatic Art's Faculty of Acting (1953) and Faculty of Directing (1965). He made his theater debut on September 1, 1953. Kłosowoski made his debut on stage as Puck in the production of Shakespeare's ''A Midsummer Night's Dream''. He made his screen debut in 1953, starring in the film '' Celuloza'' by Jerzy Kawalerowicz. Mokotów
Mokotów , is a ''dzielnica'' (borough, district) of Warsaw, the capital of Poland. Mokotów is densely populated, and is a seat to many foreign embassies and companies. Only a small part of the district is lightly industrialised (''Służewiec Przemysłowy''), while the majority is full of parks and green areas (Mokotów Field). Although the area has been populated at least since the early Middle Ages, it was not until early 1916 when Mokotów was incorporated into Warsaw. The name of the area, first appearing as the village of Mokotowo in documents from the year 1367, has unclear origins. It is hypothesised to have come from the name of a German owner of the village, who called himself Mokoto or Mokot, however no exact reference to such an individual can be found in the historical records.
