Tysta Marigången
Tysta Mari was a famous coffee shop and restaurant in Stockholm, Sweden, known to be popular with artists, intellectuals and journalists. It was established in 1834 by Maria Christina Lindström (1806–1895) on the intersection of Jakobsgatan and Drottninggatan. The original Tysta Mari was closed in 1954, but a new coffee shop and restaurant with the same names was opened in 1974 on Östermalm. Overview It got its name ''Tysta Mari'' (literary: "Silent Mary") as a description the founder Maria Christina Lindström's unobtrusive and discreet way of doing business and serving, and after this name became common, she made the nickname the cafe's official name. In 1934, Tysta Mari moved to a location on Tegelbacken. Maria Christina Lindström
Maria "Mari" Christina Lindström (2 July 1806 – 28 March 1895 in Stockholm),Westlund, B. (1992). Stockholms gatunamn. Sverige: Kommittén för stockholmsforskning. was a Swedish Coffeehouse, coffee shop owner. She is known as the founder of the famous Tysta Mari café in Stockholm. She was known by her soubriquet ''Tysta Mari'' ("Silent Marie"), which became the name for her famous café. Life Mari Lindström was born in the Lindesberg Municipality. She settled in the capital as a girl, where she was employed as a serving girl at the Bianchini restaurant at Storkyrkobrinken in Gamla stan. She came up with the idea of founding a café focused on a female clientele. Östermalm
Östermalm (; "Eastern city-borough") is a 2.56 km2 large district in central Stockholm, Sweden. With 71,802 inhabitants, it is one of the most populous districts in Stockholm. It is an extremely expensive area, having the highest housing prices in Sweden. History During the reign of the ruler of all of Scandinavia, king Eric of Pomerania in the early 15th century, a royal cowshed/barn was erected on the lands of the village Vädla. Since the town of Stockholm had grown and started to encroach on the borders of that village, there were many complaints about animals causing damage in the town.
