TurkStream
TurkStream ( tr, TürkAkım or ''Türk Akımı'', russian: Турецкий поток; former name: Turkish Stream) is a natural gas pipeline running from Russia to Turkey. It starts from Russkaya compressor station near Anapa in Russia's Krasnodar Region, crossing the Black Sea to the receiving terminal at Kıyıköy. Some gas flows onwards to Serbia, and likely in future Hungary. The 2022 Russia–European Union gas dispute cut off deliveries to Bulgaria but they will likely resume with the new Bulgarian government. History The first direct gas pipeline between Russia and Turkey under the Black Sea was Blue Stream, which was commissioned in 2005. South Stream
South Stream (russian: Южный поток, Yuzhnyy potok; bg, Южен поток, Yuzhen potok; sr, / ; sl, Južni tok; hu, Déli Áramlat; it, Flusso Meridionale) was a canceled pipeline project to transport natural gas of the Russian Federation through the Black Sea to Bulgaria and through Serbia, Hungary and Slovenia further to Austria. It was never finished. The project was found in non-compliance with the European Union's Third Energy Package legislation, which stipulates the separation of companies' generation and sale operations from their transmission networks. The Russian Government cancelled the project in 2014, seven years after the project was started. It was seen as rival to the Nabucco pipeline project, which was abandoned in favor of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline. Natural Gas In Turkey
Oil and gas each supply over a quarter of Turkey's energy. As Turkey produces little oil and gas the country's imports cost more than its exports, which is a problem for the economy. However a large gas field in the Black Sea is expected to start production in 2023. The country consumes 50 to 60 billion cubic metres of natural gas each year, almost half of which is imported from Russia. Gas storage capacity is being increased. Over 80% of the population have access to natural gas, and it supplies half of the country's heating requirements. Households buy the most gas, followed by industry and power stations. As the state owned oil and gas wholesaler BOTAŞ has 80% of the gas market, the government can and does subsidize residential and industrial gas customers. ''Pioneering Spirit'' (formerly ''Pieter Schelte'') is a catamaran crane vessel owned by the Switzerland-based Allseas Group designed for the single-lift installation and removal of large oil and gas platforms and the installation of record-weight pipelines. The , vessel is the world's largest vessel by gross tonnage, and since September 2021 also the largest floating sheerleg in the world. It was built in South Korea by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in 2013 at a cost of €2.6 billion. It commenced offshore operations in August 2016. Trans-Balkan Pipeline
The Trans-Balkan pipeline is a natural gas pipeline between Turkey and Ukraine with branches to Greece and North Macedonia. It was used by Gazprom for gas deliveries through Balkan countries to Turkey. Before construction of the Blue Stream pipeline it was the only international natural gas pipeline supplying Turkey. Pipelines of the southern corridor of the natural gas transmission system of Ukraine are connected with the Trans-Balkan pipeline through the Orlivka gas metering and compressor station. Since 2020, its section in Bulgaria from Malkoçlar on the Turkey–Bulgaria border up to the compressor station in Provadia, north-east of Bulgaria, has been used for transportation of natural gas received from TurkStream. The Black Sea is a marginal mediterranean sea of the Atlantic Ocean lying between Europe and Asia, east of the Balkans, south of the East European Plain, west of the Caucasus, and north of Anatolia. Kıyıköy
Kıyıköy, formerly Midye, ancient/medieval Medea ( bg, Мидия, el, Μήδεια), is a small town on the Black Sea coast in the district of Vize in Kırklareli Province in northwestern Turkey. It is from Vize and away from Kırklareli. The population of Kıyıköy was 2,077 according to the 2010 National Census.It became a municipality in 1987. Fishing, forestry and tourism are the main local sources of income. The town has a small beach while the surrounding area is covered by dense forest mainly of oak. Two streams, the Kazandere and the Pabuçdere, surround the town in the south and north respectively and flowi into the Black Sea. 2022 Russia–European Union Gas Dispute
The Russia–EU gas dispute flared up in March 2022 following the invasion of Ukraine in late February. Russia and the major EU countries clashed over the issue of payment for pipeline natural gas exported to Europe by Russia's Gazprom. In June, Russia cut the flow of gas by more than half, in July it stopped and resumed it, and in September it stopped it altogether. Blue Stream
Blue Stream is a major trans-Black Sea gas pipeline that carries natural gas to Turkey from Russia. The pipeline has been constructed by the Blue Stream Pipeline B.V., the Netherlands based joint venture of Russian Gazprom and Italian Eni. The Blue Stream Pipeline B.V. is an owner of the subsea section of pipeline, including Beregovaya compressor station, while Gazprom owns and operates the Russian land section of the pipeline and the Turkish land section is owned and operated by the Turkish energy company BOTAŞ.
