Jelendol, Tržič
Jelendol () is a settlement on the banks of the Tržič Bistrica, Tržič Bistrica River in the Municipality of Tržič in the Upper Carniola region of Slovenia. Name Until 1955, the village was called ''Puterhof''. The origin of the name ''Puterhof'' (also attested as ''Putterhof'' and ''Putrhof'') is unknown, but a folk story derives it from German ''Butterhof'' (i.e., 'butter farm'), relating that so much butter was produced there that a fire at the farm caused the butter to melt and run down the hill toward the mill on the creek. In the early 1950s, editorials were published stating that it was necessary to change the name of the village because of its presumed German origin. Suggestions for a new name included ''Košutnik'', ''Podkošutnik'', ''Žagarji'', ''Jelengaj'', and ''Jelendol''. Karawanks
The Karawanks or Karavankas or Karavanks ( sl, Karavanke; german: Karawanken, ) are a mountain range of the Southern Limestone Alps on the border between Slovenia to the south and Austria to the north. With a total length of in an east–west direction, the Karawanks chain is one of the longest ranges in Europe. It is traversed by important trade routes and has a great tourist significance. Geographically and geologically, it is divided into the higher Western Karawanks and the lower-lying Eastern Karawanks. It is traversed by the Periadriatic Seam, separating the Apulian Plate, Apulian tectonic plate from the Eurasian Plate. Sava
The Sava (; , ; sr-cyr, Сава, hu, Száva) is a river in Central and Southeast Europe, a right-bank and the longest tributary of the Danube. Podbrezje
Podbrezje (; german: Birkendorf''Leksikon občin kraljestev in dežel zastopanih v državnem zboru,'' vol. 6: ''Kranjsko''. 1906. Vienna: C. Kr. Dvorna in Državna Tiskarna, pp. 54–55.) is a village in the Municipality of Naklo in the Upper Carniola region of Slovenia. It includes the hamlets of Dolenja Vas ( sl, Dolenja vas, german: Unterbirkendorf), Srednja Vas ( sl, Srednja vas, german: Mitterbirkendorf), Britof (german: Freithof), and Podtabor (german: Tabor), which were separate settlements before the Second World War. Upper Carniola
Upper Carniola ( sl, Gorenjska; it, Alta Carniola; german: Oberkrain) is a traditional region of Slovenia, the northern mountainous part of the larger Carniola region. The centre of the region is Kranj, while other urban centers include Jesenice, Tržič, Škofja Loka, Kamnik, and Domžale. It has around 300,000 inhabitants or 14% of the population of Slovenia. Dovžan Gorge
The Dovžan Gorge ( sl, Dovžanova soteska or ''Dolžanova soteska'') is a gorge in Slovenia that was carved by the Tržič Bistrica River. The river flows through unique waterfalls over large rounded blocks of white quartz conglomerate. These large blocks tumbled into the river from Pine Cliff ( sl, Borova peč) above the right bank, named after the Scots pine that overgrows its steep slopes. The gorge is picturesque because of the six high stone pillars known as the Kušpergar Towers ( sl, Kušpegarjevi turni), where a climbing area has been set up. A geological trail, the Dovžan Gorge forest nature trail, a mountain trail, a scenic trail, and a trail to a Yugoslav Partisans, Partisan underground press run through the gorge. Tržič
Tržič (; german: Neumarktl) is a town in northern Slovenia, close to the Austrian border. It is the seat of the Municipality of Tržič. Geography The town is located within the historic Upper Carniola region on the Tržič Bistrica River, a left tributary of the Sava. In the north, a road leads up to the Loibl Pass in the Karawanks mountain range, the border with the Austrian state of Carinthia.
