The Trunk Boiz are a rap group from Oakland, California and one of the first rap groups to attain commercial success from the burgeoning scraper bike scene of the Bay Area of California. They are widely considered to be the best pure lyricists in the rap industry. Their first hit, Scraper Bike, introduced mainstream America to scraper bikes, a distinct type of bicycle (inspired by the Scraper (car), scraper car style) ridden in Oakland, California, specifically East Oakland, and became one of the earliest internet viral videos, with the YouTube video "Scraper Bike" racking up millions of views by September 2008. The term hyphy ( ) is Oakland slang meaning "hyperactive". More specifically, it is an adjective describing the hip hop music and the culture associated with the area. The term was first coined by Oakland rapper Keak da Sneak. History The hyphy culture emerged in the late 1990s in Oakland before rising to prominence throughout the wider Bay Area in the early 2000s. It is distinguished by gritty, pounding rhythms, and has been compared to crunk music. San Jose producer Traxamillion is largely considered the first producer to create hyphy style music, having produced songs such as Keak Da Sneak’s “Super Hyphy”, which established the term hyphy. Todd Anthony Shaw (born April 28, 1966), better known by the stage name Too Short (stylized as Too $hort), is an American rapper and record producer. A scraper bike is a bicycle that has been modified by its owner, often with decorated spokes with matching body and wheel colors, using tinfoil, re-used cardboard, candy wrappers and paint.
