Kehlani Ashley Parrish (born April 24, 1995) is an American singer, songwriter, and dancer. Kehlani is originally from Oakland, California, and achieved initial fame as a member of the teen group Poplyfe in 2011. In 2014, Kehlani released their first commercial mixtape, ''Cloud 19''. The mixtape was listed as one of the ''Complex''s "50 Best Albums of 2014." Their second commercial mixtape, '' You Should Be Here'' (2015), debuted at number 5 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. In 2016, they were nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Urban Contemporary Album for ''You Should Be Here''. Kehlani released their debut studio album, ''SweetSexySavage'', in 2017. ''SweetSexySavage'' is the debut studio album by American singer and songwriter Kehlani. The album was released on January 27, 2017, by Atlantic Records. Kehlani started work on the album shortly after the release of their mixtape '' You Should Be Here'', with work proceeding into 2016. Kehlani described the album as having three elements; Sweet, Sexy and Savage, which are intended to be reflected in the album's lyrical content and production. Kehlani was the lead writer on all tracks aside from "Intro", which was written by Reyna Biddy. Production on the project was handled by Pop & Oak, Jahaan Sweet, Charlie Heat, among others, who worked to incorporate a variety of different sounds on the album. ''It Was Good Until It Wasn't'' is the second studio album by American singer and songwriter Kehlani. It was released on May 8, 2020, by Atlantic Records. It features guest appearances from Tory Lanez, Jhené Aiko, Masego, Lucky Daye and James Blake, as well as uncredited vocals by Ty Dolla Sign. Three promotional singles preceded the album's release. ''You Should Be Here'' is the second and debut commercial mixtape by American singer and songwriter Kehlani. It was self-released through the iTunes Store on April 28, 2015. ''You Should Be Here'' features guest appearances from Lexii Alijai, Chance the Rapper, and BJ the Chicago Kid. It peaked at number 36 on the US ''Billboard'' 200. Mixed by Joe Fitzgerald, the mixtape predominantly features production by Jahaan Sweet, along with production from JMike, Madmax, Geoffro Cause and Ted Digtl, among others. In July 2015, Kehlani embarked on a tour to promote the mixtape. The tour visited cities; including North America and Europe.
