Transoriental Orchestra
''Transoriental Orchestra'' is a studio album by Polish singer Kayah, released in 2013 by Kayax. Background The album was inspired by Kayah's performance at the 9th Festival of Jewish Culture in Warsaw in 2012, during which she presented traditional Sephardi and Ashkenazi Jewish songs from different regions of Europe and the Middle East, performed in a range of languages. She collaborated with Bulgarian composer Atanas Valkov and various musicians of Polish, Ukrainian and Persian origins, with whom she went on to record the songs for an album. It was released on Kayah's birthday in 2013. Katarzyna Magdalena Rooijens (née Szczot; born 5 November 1967 in Warsaw), professionally known as Kayah, is a Polish singer-songwriter performing a variety of music genres, including pop, soul, jazz, world and dance. She has also experimented with disco, funk, electronica as well as Balkan and Jewish music. Kayah released her first self-written album in 1995 and has since established herself as one of the most critically and commercially successful Polish singers. She is one of the most awarded artists by the Polish Society of the Phonographic Industry (ZPAV) and has placed fourth on Polish music magazine '' Machina''s list of "50 best Polish female singers". "My Yiddishe Momme" is a song written by Jack Yellen (words and music) and Lew Pollack (music), first recorded by Willie Howard, and was made famous in Vaudeville by Belle Baker and by Sophie Tucker, and later by the Barry Sisters. Tucker began singing ''My Yiddishe Momme'' in 1925, after the death of her own mother. She later dedicated her autobiography ''Some of These Days'' to Yellen, "A grand song writer, and a grander friend". Hava Nagila ( he, הָבָה נָגִילָה, ''Hāvā Nāgīlā'', "Let us rejoice") is a Jewish folk song. It is traditionally sung at celebrations, such as weddings. The Fryderyk is the annual award in Polish music. Its name refers to the original Polish spelling variant of Polish composer Frédéric Chopin's first name. Its status in the Polish public can be compared to the American Grammy and the UK's BRIT Award.
