Torrens Transit
Torrens Transit is an Australian bus service operator in Adelaide. It operates some services as part of the Adelaide Metro network under contract to the Government of South Australia. It is a subsidiary of Transit Systems, which is a part of the Kelsian Group. History On 23 April 2000, Torrens Transit commenced operating the Adelaide Metro East–West contract with 255 buses under contract to the Government of South Australia. In April 2005, Torrens Transit commenced operating the North–South and Outer North East contracts that had previously been run by Serco. In July 2011, Torrens Transit commenced operating a new eight-year East–West contract with an optional four-year extension exercisable if performance criteria are met. However the North–South and Outer North East area contracts passed to Light-City Buses in October 2011. TransAdelaide
TransAdelaide was a publicly owned corporation established on 4 July 1994 which provided suburban train, tram and bus services in Adelaide, South Australia, under contract to the Government of South Australia. It took over these responsibilities from the State Transport Authority. TransAdelaide operated local bus services in Adelaide until 22 April 2000. All metropolitan bus routes have since been transferred to private companies Light-City Buses, SouthLink and Torrens Transit. TransAdelaide continued to operate rail services under the Adelaide Metro brand. Volvo B59
The Volvo B59 was a rear-engined bus chassis manufactured by Volvo in Sweden between 1970 and 1979. The first Volvo B59 was delivered to the Københavns Sporveje (The City Transport Authority in Copenhagen, Denmark) in 1970, and was fitted with a bodywork built by Aabenraa Karrosserifabrik in Aabenraa. Originally operated as a prototype, it came later entered ordinary service. After withdrawal, It was purchased by Volvo for preservation at the Volvo Museum in Gothenburg. At least 89 were subsequently purchased. The B59 was popular with Australian government operators. Brisbane City Council placed 98 in service between 1976 and 1978, State Transit Authority, Adelaide 307 between 1977 and 1979 and the Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board 100. Volvo B58
The Volvo B58 was a mid-engined bus chassis manufactured by Volvo in Sweden from 1966 until early 1982. It was succeeded by the B10M. Operators In the United Kingdom, it was sold to many major operators including Wallace Arnold and Park's of Hamilton from 1972. Many of the Volvo B58s in the United Kingdom were built as coaches. One Volvo B58 was rebodied as a double-decker bus with East Lancs Droop Nose double-decker bus body for Skills Coaches. In 1978, Greater Stockholm Transport Authority ordered 250 B58s. Until November 2009, GO Wellington in New Zealand operated 68 Volvo B58 trolleybuses. In Brazil, The Volvo B58 (named the B58E) was built in Curitiba from 1979 to 1998. MAN SL202
The MAN SL202 was a single-decker bus manufactured by MAN in Salzgitter, Germany between 1983 and 1993. It was also available as a chassis for external bodywork. History The MAN SL202 succeeded the MAN SL200 in 1983. The SL202 came with a wide choice of transmissions, from three and four-speed Renk Doromat automatic transmissions, to three and four-speed Voith DIWA transmissions, to four and five-speed ZF Ecomat 4HP500 or 5HP500 transmissions. One to date has been retro-fitted with an Allison World Series B300R4 transmission, creating a largely noticeable increase in performance against similar examples with the three-speed Voith DIWA transmission. MAN NL202
The MAN NL202 was a low floor single-decker bus built by MAN Nutzfahrzeuge from the late 1980s until 1992. It is derived from the VöV SL-II bus standard. Especially sold in Europe, in particular in Germany, it was replaced by MAN NL262. It was additionally sold in South Australia, in diesel and Compressed natural gas variants, the latter of which continues to be used to this day in significant numbers. The Dennis Dart is a rear-engined single-decker midibus chassis that was introduced by Dennis Specialist Vehicles of Guildford, England in 1989, replacing the Dennis Domino. Initially built as a high-floor design, In 1996 the low-floor second generation Dennis Dart SLF was launched. In 2001, production of the Dart SLF passed to TransBus International, during which time it was sold as the TransBus Dart SLF; Alexander Dennis took over production in 2004, renaming the product as the Alexander Dennis Dart SLF.
