Tony Piccone
Tony Piccone (born 21 July 1987 in Marseille) is a French flat racing jockey. A son of a jockey, he joined an apprentice jockey school in Marseille aged 14 and apprenticed for trainer Cédric Boutin three years later. He has since been a freelance jockey and gets called up on British-trained horses which race in France. He was riding in Hong Kong in January and February 2020 and then again from October 2020 to November 2021. In 2019, he won the group two Qatar Derby aboard Pedro Cara. The Prix du Cadran is a Group 1 flat horse race in France open to thoroughbreds aged four years or older. It is run at Longchamp over a distance of 4,000 metres (about 2 miles), and it is scheduled to take place each year in early October. The Prix de Diane, sometimes referred to as the French Oaks, is a Group 1 flat horse race in France open to three-year-old thoroughbred fillies. It is run at Chantilly over a distance of 2,100 metres (about 1 mile and 2½ furlongs), and it is scheduled to take place each year in June. It is France's equivalent of The Oaks, a famous race in England. History The event is named after the mythological goddess Diana (in French, "Diane"). It was established in 1843, and was originally restricted to horses born and bred in France. Its distance was set at 2,100 metres, around 300 metres shorter than the English version. It was switched to Versailles during the Revolution of 1848, and was cancelled due to the Franco-Prussian War in 1871. The Prix du Moulin de Longchamp is a Group 1 flat horse race in France open to horses aged three years or older. It is run at Longchamp over a distance of 1,600 metres (about 1 mile), and it is scheduled to take place each year in September. History The event is named after the Moulin de Longchamp, a windmill located within the grounds of the racecourse. The mill was originally part of an abbey, and its foundation stone was laid by Saint Louis in 1256. It was destroyed during the French Revolution, but reconstructed when the racecourse was built in 1856. Wonderful Tonight (foaled 7 March 2017) is a French-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. After winning one minor race as a two-year-old she improved throughout the following season to become one of the best staying fillies in Europe, recording victories in the Prix Minerve, Prix de Royallieu and British Champions Fillies and Mares Stakes. History The event is named after Royallieu, an area where the stables of Frédéric de Lagrange were located in the late 19th century. Unfortunately (foaled 16 March 2015), is an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. He showed top class form as a two-year-old in 2017 when he won the Prix Robert Papin and the Prix Morny. In the following year he struggled to reproduce his best form but ended his track career with a victory in the Renaissance Stakes. Background Unfortunately is a bay horse with a white star and white socks on his front legs bred in Ireland by the County Westmeath-based Tally-Ho Stud. In September 2016 the yearling was consigned to the Tattersalls Ireland sale and was bought for €24,000 by the British trainer Karl Burke.
