Tony Holland (bodybuilder)
Tony Holland (born 1939) is a British bodybuilder known for his muscle dancing act using his skill at the Maxalding muscle control technique. He achieved national celebrity in the UK after appearing on the ITV talent show '' Opportunity Knocks'' in 1964. His act consisted of flexing his biceps and then his shoulder muscles to the music '' Wheels Cha-Cha''. He won the show six times and went on to repeat his 'muscle dancing' act on ''Sunday Night at the London Palladium ''Tonight at the London Palladium'' is a British television variety show that is hosted from the London Palladium theatre in the West End. Bodybuilding is the use of progressive resistance exercise to control and develop one's muscles (muscle building) by muscle hypertrophy for aesthetic purposes. Skeletal muscles (commonly referred to as muscles) are organs of the vertebrate muscular system and typically are attached by tendons to bones of a skeleton. Maxalding
Maxalding is an exercise system of ''muscle control'' using a form of isometrics. Books and pamphlets teaching the system were first published in 1909 and continued until Maxalding ceased to trade in the late 1970s. System The Maxalding system, like the " dynamic tension" system of Charles Atlas and those of others, did not use weights. Where the other systems concentrated on muscle development, Maxalding went one stage further and taught muscle control. The methods taught had been around since the early 1900s and indeed many of the photos used in the instruction leaflets, even those sold in the 1970s, date from that period. Some exercises of Maxalding, involving isolating the muscles of the abdominal region, are similar to the yoga exercise of nauli. ''Opportunity Knocks'' is a British television and radio talent show originally hosted by Hughie Green, with a late-1980s revival hosted by Bob Monkhouse, and later by previous winner Les Dawson. From its origin on BBC Radio in 1949 the show provided a platform to fame for acts such as Spike Milligan and Frankie Vaughan. One of the most popular shows on British television, in the 1960s and 1970s it had a weekly audience of 20 million viewers. The original radio version started on the BBC Light Programme, where it ran from 18 February to 29 September 1949, but moved to Radio Luxembourg in the 1950s. The biceps or biceps brachii ( la, musculus biceps brachii, "two-headed muscle of the arm") is a large muscle that lies on the front of the upper arm between the shoulder and the elbow. "Wheels" is the debut single by the String-A-Longs, issued in 1960. Their biggest hit single, it peaked at No. 3 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and was the number 8 single of 1961 according to ''Billboard''. The track reached number 8 in the UK Singles Chart. It sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc. The song has been covered by many artists, including charting versions by the Joe Loss Orchestra and Billy Vaughn Orchestra.
