Stockholm City Line
The Stockholm City Line ( sv, Citybanan) is a commuter railway tunnel beneath central Stockholm in Sweden which is used by the Stockholm Commuter Rail. The line is long, double track and electrified. It has two stations: Stockholm City Station is located directly below T-Centralen, the central station of the Stockholm Metro. The Odenplan station is the other station, and is also served by the Green Line of the Metro. The line opened on 10 July 2017. Route The tunnel significantly improves the traffic throughput to and from south of Stockholm as there are only two tracks in that direction from Stockholm Central Station, the same number that were in place in 1871 when the railway was originally built. It has 24 scheduled trains per hour in each direction. The commuter trains pass Stockholm with up to 16 trains per hour per direction. The other eight are regional and long-distance trains. The Swedish Railway Museum, ( sv, Sveriges Järnvägsmuseum), in Gävle, Gästrikland, Sweden is the national museum for Sweden's railway history. The Swedish Railway Museum is tasked with acquiring, preserving and supplying knowledge about Swedish railway history on the basis of the national collection. The museum is owned by Trafikverket (Swedish Transport Administration), which receives an annual sum for the museum's activities from the Government. History In 1915, the National Railway Board opened a railway museum in Stockholm. In 1942, a hall for locomotives and rolling stock was added at Tomteboda railway station in Stockholm. The Swedish Railway Museum has been located in Gävle since 1970. The Museum has the use of two yards with tracks and several large buildings, including two round loco sheds and a sizeable workshop. Stockholm South, ''Stockholms södra'', Stockholm S, locally known as ''Södra Station'' (Southern Station) is a railway station in Södermalm, Stockholm, Sweden. The Stockholm South railway station was originally opened in the year 1860, and was originally the northern terminus of the Västra Stambanan railway line until the construction of Stockholm Central Station (Stockholm C). The 1860 building was replaced with a new building in 1926. The current station, which includes a large apartment complex above it, began construction in 1986 on the site of the original station, and was opened in 1989. The new station is underground, situated below the site of the old station, and on the railway line it is between Årstaberg and Stockholm C. Stockholm commuter rail ( sv, Stockholms pendeltåg) is the commuter rail system in Stockholm County, Sweden. The system is an important part of the public transport in Stockholm, and is controlled by Storstockholms Lokaltrafik. The tracks are state-owned and administered by the Swedish Transport Administration, while the operation of the Stockholm commuter rail services itself has been contracted to MTR Nordic since December 2016.
