Swedish Railway Museum
The Swedish Railway Museum, ( sv, Sveriges Järnvägsmuseum), in Gävle, Gästrikland, Sweden is the national museum for Sweden's railway history. The Swedish Railway Museum is tasked with acquiring, preserving and supplying knowledge about Swedish railway history on the basis of the national collection. The museum is owned by Trafikverket (Swedish Transport Administration), which receives an annual sum for the museum's activities from the Government. History In 1915, the National Railway Board opened a railway museum in Stockholm. In 1942, a hall for locomotives and rolling stock was added at Tomteboda railway station in Stockholm. The Swedish Railway Museum has been located in Gävle since 1970. The Museum has the use of two yards with tracks and several large buildings, including two round loco sheds and a sizeable workshop. Gävle
Gävle () is a city in Sweden, the seat of Gävle Municipality and the capital of Gävleborg County. It had 77,586 inhabitants in 2020, which makes it the 13th most populated city in Sweden. It is the oldest city in the historical Norrland (Sweden's Northern Lands), having received its charter in 1446 from Christopher of Bavaria. However, Gävle is far nearer to the greater Stockholm region than it is to most other major settlements in Norrland and has a much milder climate than associated with said region. In recent years, the city has received much international attention due to its large Yule Goat figure made of straw - the Gävle Goat. Gästrikland
Gästrikland () is a historical province or ''landskap'' on the eastern coast of Sweden. It borders Uppland, Västmanland, Dalarna, Hälsingland and the Gulf of Bothnia. Gästrikland is the southernmost of the Norrland provinces. Other forms of the name used are ''Gestricia'' and ''Gastrikland''. Before 1900, the spelling was officially ''Gestrikland'' in Swedish. Administration The traditional provinces of Sweden serve no administrative or political purposes, but are historical and cultural entities. The Swedish Transport Administration ( sv, Trafikverket) is a government agency in Sweden, controlled by the Riksdag and the Government of Sweden. Railway Museum Of Grängesberg
The Railway Museum of Grängesberg ( sv, GrängesBergsBanornas Järnvägsmuseum, GBBJ), also called the Museum of Locomotives ( sv, Lokmuseet) is a Swedish museum of locomotives, located 2 km southwest of the center of Grängesberg, Dalarna, in direction towards Örebro, Västmanland. History The museum was established in 1979, located in a locomotive stable erected in 1928. The museum preserves the world's only remaining steam turbine locomotive in function, Ljungström locomotive '' M3t nr 71'', manufactured in 1930 by Nydqvist & Holm AB and renovated by the Locomotive Museum for the 125th anniversary of the Swedish Railways in June 1981. This locomotive was built in 3 units, and all of them are preserved at the museum. With a power of 22 tons, it is still Sweden's most powerful steam locomotive.
