Career Tommy Graham joined his first band in Scarborough, a Toronto suburb in 1958. Along with his good friend, Brian Massey, this band became the original “Regents”. The Regents' lineup evolved as they gigged around Toronto for the next couple of years. Singer Kay Taylor joined the band in 1961, and as Kay Taylor and the Regents they became the house band at the original Club Bluenote on Yonge Street. During its time, this after-hours R&B club hosted many of 'name' R&B artists who were touring through Toronto and would gravitate to the Club Bluenote after their gigs. The Regents (Canadian Band)
The Regents were a Canadian group formed in 1959. They started out as a club band and then reformed as a recording band. They had a Top 20 hit with "Me and You". Background The formation of the group came about as a result of Steve Kennedy talking to Peter Groschel in the late 1950s. Kennedy was working for Bache and Co., where part of his job involved answering phone calls from Peter Groschel who worked in the stock brokerage business. Groshel would call Kennedy at Bache and Co. when there were international buy-and-sell orders. During the course of talking to each other over a period of time, and discovering Kennedy played saxophone, a band was formed, and Kennedy came in. The line up consisted of Brian Massey on bass, Tommy Goodings on guitar, Kennedy on saxophone and Groschel on drums. Sometime later singer Kay Taylor came in to front the band. Brian Ahern (producer)
Brian Ahern, CM (born 1945 in Halifax, Nova Scotia) is a Canadian record producer and guitarist. He has produced albums for a wide variety of artists, including 12 albums for Anne Murray; 11 albums for Emmylou Harris (to whom he was also married for seven years); he also produced discs for Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, George Jones, Roy Orbison, Glen Campbell, Don Williams, Jesse Winchester, and Linda Ronstadt. Ahern was entered into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 2006 in Saint John, New Brunswick. He was given the Lifetime Achievement Award for Producer/Engineer during The Americana Music Association Awards at the Ryman Auditorium, in Nashville TN. on Thursday, 9 September 2010 by former wife Emmylou Harris and musician Rodney Crowell.
