Tomahawk Conference
The Tomahawk Conference is a Minnesota State High School League sanctioned athletic conference comprising schools located in the south central region of Minnesota. Offerings Sports The conference offers the following: The conference schools football teams play in either the Southern Minnesota Conference or Gopher Conference. Teams in the Tomahawk Conference compete in competitive classes of A and AA for section and state tournaments. Activities The conference offers the following: Current members The conference consists of 10 schools, although Cedar Mountain High School and Comfrey High School have a co-op for all sports, leaving 9 teams to compete. Minnesota State High School League
The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) is a voluntary, non-profit association for the support and governance of interscholastic activities at high schools in Minnesota, United States. The association supports interscholastic athletics and fine arts programs for member schools. Membership includes nearly 500 schools, including special schools, home schools, and 435 high schools. The State High School League is an affiliate of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). The League also addresses sportsmanship, chemical health, scholarship recognition, and oversees tournament officials and judges. The League provides educational programs for coaches. The organization's operating revenue is derived from tournament ticket sales, broadcast rights, corporate sponsorship, and sale of tournament merchandise. Sleepy Eye, Minnesota
Sleepy Eye is a small city in rural Brown County, Minnesota, United States. The city is named after a famed local Dakota chief from the 1800s. The population was 3,599 at the 2010 census. History Sleepy Eye took its name from Sleepy Eye Lake, which was named after Chief Sleepy Eye, who was known as a compassionate person with droopy eyelids (or maybe just one). The chief was one of four Sioux Native Americans (four Ojibwe also attended) chosen to meet President James Monroe in 1824 in the nation's capital. Later, Sleepy Eye was an integral player in the 1851 signing of the Treaty of Traverse des Sioux, which gave all the land but a 10-mile swath on each side of the upper Minnesota River to the U.S. government. His recommendations to traders led to the successful settlement of Mankato, away from flood areas, and the chief eventually settled his people near the lake now known as Sleepy Eye Lake.
