Tom Randall (rock Climber)
Tom Randall is a British professional rock climber. Randall and his climbing partner Pete Whittaker, known as the ''Wide Boyz'', are some of the best crack climbers in the world, known for their the first free ascent of Century Crack in 2011. They also produce crack climbing media content, and equipment such as crack volumes for indoor crack climbing training. Climbing career In 2011, alongside climbing partner Pete Whittaker, Randall made the first free ascent of Century Crack (5.14b), one of the world's hardest offwidth crack climbs. They won the 2016 '' Climbing'' Golden Piton ''Vision Award'' for their achievement. In 2015, Randall made the first ascent of The Kraken in Hartland Quay, Devon, England, a 40 ft horizontal roof crack, giving it a grade of V13. Hartland Quay
Hartland Quay is located on the Atlantic coast of Devon, England, south of Hartland Point and north of Bude, Cornwall. It experiences some of the roughest seas in winter and is a former harbour. History The harbour dated back to the time of Henry VIII until a storm led to the complete destruction of the pier head and later the whole pier wall in 1887. Parts of the old formation stones can be seen at low tide. As well as evidence of a counter pier. The only evidence visible at all times is the lyme kiln. The old Customs House has been a hotel since 1886 and its former stables are now 'The Wrecker's Retreat' bar. The former corn and hay lofts are now hotel bedrooms. In 'The Wrecker's Retreat' are displayed memorabilia charting the history of Hartland Quay as well as displays of shipwrecks on the coast over the centuries. ''Burden of Dreams'' is a red granite grade bouldering problem at Lappnor near Loviisa, in Finland. It was first climbed by Finnish climber Nalle Hukkataival on 23 October 2016, who spent four years projecting the boulder, and features in the 2017 climbing film, ''The Lappnor Project''. ''Climbing'' awarded Hukkataival a in 2016 for having the courage to grade it at , making ''Burden of Dreams'' the world's first-ever boulder problem at the grade. William (Will) Bosi (born 27 December 1998) is a Scottish professional rock climber specializing in sport climbing, bouldering and competition climbing. Bosi is only the second British sport climber in history to redpoint a graded sport climbing route (''King Capella'' in 2021), and by 2023, was one of only a small group of climbers in the world to have completed a boulder (''Alphane'' in 2022, '' Burden of Dreams'' in 2023, and ''Return of the Sleepwalker'' in 2024). Cobra Crack
''Cobra Crack'' is a long traditional climbing route on a thin crack up an overhanging granite rock face on Stawamus Chief, in Squamish, British Columbia. The route was first ascended by Peter Croft and Tami Knight in 1981 as an aid climb. After rebuffing many attempts by leading climbers – most notably by Swiss crack climber Didier Berthod in 2005 – Canadian climber Sonnie Trotter made the first free ascent in 2006. The Kraken (climb)
The Kraken is a 40ft horizontal roof crack boulder, in Devon, England, claimed to be the hardest crack boulder in the world. Tom Randall made the first free ascent of the boulder in August 2015, giving it a grade of . Sequence The boulder is set in a sea cave on the shore of Devon. Timing an ascent is difficult, because the sea washes into the cave every day, coating the rock in salty gunk, and the wind and weather conditions have to be ideal for an ascent. The problem starts at the back of the cave, in a crack in the roof. The first section is a sequence of good hand and foot jams, followed by a harder section with a long move between good jams, and then a finger jam and a mono. The crux of the move requires backhanding a mono, allowing you to spin your feet around to jam them into a perpendicular crack, pointing out of the cave.
