Tom Helebert
Thomas Helebert (born 1964) is an Irish former hurler and former selector of the Galway senior hurling management team, who played as a right wing-back for the Galway senior team. Helebert joined the team in 1989 and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement in 1996. He has won one National League winners' medal and one All-Star award. He ended up as an All-Ireland runner-up in 1993. In 1996 he received an All Star Award. At club level Helebert played with Ballinderreen, and later Gort Gort ( or ) is a town of around 3,000 inhabitants in County Galway in the west of Ireland. 'Ballinderreen GAA'' is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Ballinderreen, County Galway, Ireland. The club was founded in 1884. The parish already was deeply rooted in hurling before the foundation of the GAA. The club is situated in South Galway, in the parish of Ballinderreen. The club has produced many fine hurlers throughout the years, many of whom have gone on to win All Ireland Medals with Galway. Gort GAA Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club located in Gort, County Galway, Ireland. Founded at the turn of the 20th century, the club is almost exclusively concerned with the game of hurling. The Galway County Boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae na Gaillimhe) or Galway GAA are one of the 32 county boards in Ireland; they are responsible for Gaelic games in County Galway, and for the Galway county teams. Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The National Hurling League is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into six divisions, with either five or six teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league. Although primarily a competition for Irish teams, teams from England – currently Lancashire GAA, Lancashire, London GAA, London and Warwickshire GAA, Warwickshire – also take part, while in the past New York GAA, New York also fielded a team for the latter stages of the league. The Gaelic Athletic Association-Gaelic Players' Association All Stars Awards (often known simply as the All Stars) are awarded annually to the best player in each of the 15 playing positions in Gaelic football and hurling. Additionally, one player in each code is selected as Player of the Year. The awards were instituted in 1971. Since 2011 they have been presented jointly by the Gaelic Athletic Association and the representative body for inter-county players, the Gaelic Players Association.
