Ballinderreen GAA
'Ballinderreen GAA'' is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Ballinderreen, County Galway, Ireland. The club was founded in 1884. The parish already was deeply rooted in hurling before the foundation of the GAA. The club is situated in South Galway, in the parish of Ballinderreen. The club has produced many fine hurlers throughout the years, many of whom have gone on to win All Ireland Medals with Galway. History The Club has little success in terms of senior championship silverware, but it has been very successful in juvenile age groups, winning many underage championships. In 2011, the club's Junior B team won the Leinster Junior B Club hurling championship, becoming the first ever Galway team to win a Leinster championship. Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. Galway Intermediate Hurling Championship
The Galway Intermediate Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Galmont Hotel Intermediate Hurling Championship and abbreviated to the Galway IHC) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Galway County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking intermediate clubs in the county of Galway in Ireland. It is the second tier overall in the entire Galway hurling championship system. The Galway Intermediate Championship was introduced in 1949 as a competition that would bridge the gap between the senior grade and the junior grade. In its current format, the Galway Intermediate Championship begins in April. The 14 participating teams are drawn into two groups of seven teams and play each other in a round-robin system. Tom Helebert
Thomas Helebert (born 1964) is an Irish former hurler and former selector of the Galway senior hurling management team, who played as a right wing-back for the Galway senior team. Helebert joined the team in 1989 and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement in 1996. He has won one National League winners' medal and one All-Star award. He ended up as an All-Ireland runner-up in 1993. In 1996 he received an All Star Award. Joe McDonagh
Joseph McDonagh (November 1953 – 20 May 2016) was an Irish hurler and, later, Gaelic games administrator, who served as the president of the Gaelic Athletic Association from 1997 until 2000. He played hurling with his club Ballinderreen and the Galway senior team. Early life and education Born in Tuam, County Galway, McDonagh was introduced to hurling by his father, a long-serving Gaelic games administrator and schoolteacher. He developed his hurling skills at Coláiste Éinde, while also excelling at Gaelic football as a result of the coaching of teacher Enda Colleran. With University College Galway (UCG), McDonagh played both Gaelic football and hurling and was a Fitzgibbon Cup medal winner as a postgraduate student in 1977. Mick Gill
Michael Gill (22 September 1899 – 21 September 1980) was an Irish hurler who played as a right wing-back for the Galway and Dublin senior teams from 1922 until 1938. Gill made his first championship appearance during the 1922 championship and became a regular player for both Galway and Dublin over the next sixteen years. During that time he won three All-Ireland winner's medals, four Leinster winner's medals and two National Hurling League winners' medals. At club level Gill enjoyed lengthy playing careers with the Ballinderreen and Garda clubs, winning six county club championship winners' medals with the latter. Kiltormer GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the Clontuskert, Lawrencetown and Kiltormer areas outside Ballinasloe, County Galway, Ireland. The club is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. Overview History Gaelic games in the Kiltormer area have been recorded as far back as 1897. Down through the years Clontuskert, Lawrencetown and Kiltormer affiliated separate teams, while Ganaveen and Tristaun also formed separate clubs. Ballinderreen
Ballinderreen () is a village located on the N67 route between Kilcolgan and Kinvara in south County Galway, in Ireland. Location and name Ballinderreen village is approximately 22 km south of Galway City and is a part of the townland of Ballinderreen. Ballinderreen is both the name of the Catholic diocesan parish of Galway and the townland where the village is situated. It takes its name from oak trees in the village. The Irish name of the village, ''Baile an Doirín'', means "town of the little derry or little oakwood", suggesting the area may once have been more heavily forested with oak trees. It contains the early Christian settlement of Surney of Drumacoo.
