Tjitji The Himba Girl
''Tjitji: The Himba Girl'', is a 2015 Namibian documentary short film directed by Oshosheni Hiveluah and produced by Virginia Witts. The film focuses on the life of Tjijandjeua 'Tjitji', a young, successful and ambitious Himba student who has secret dreams of being the next famous ‘Talk Show Host’. The film has been recognized for breaking stereotypes against women. The film received positive reviews and won several awards at international film festivals. The film had the nominations in the categories Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Original Music Score, Best Cinematography, and Best Narrative Film at the 2014 Namibian Theater and Film Awards held at the National Theatre of Namibia (NTN). Oshosheni Hiveluah
Oshosheni Hiveluah (22 October 1981 – 10 October 2019) was a Namibian writer, producer, and director. She is best known for the films ''Tjitji the Himba Girl'' and ''100 Bucks.'' Early life and education Oshosheni was born in Luanda, Angola on the 22 October 1981 to Ulitala Monnica Nameuja and Tuli Hiveluah and was sent to Germany , the former GDR when she was three years old. Her family returned to Namibia post-independence. Oshosheni completed her secondary school education at the Deutsche Höhere Privatschule in Namibia. She attended the CityVarsity Multi Media School in Cape Town. Oshosheni also studied advanced TV documentary filmmaking under the Fulbright Alumni at the Namibia University of Science and Technology. Herero (, ''Otjiherero'') is a Bantu language spoken by the Herero and Mbanderu peoples in Namibia and Botswana, as well as by small communities of people in southwestern Angola. There were 211,700 speakers in 2014. Himba People
The Himba (singular: OmuHimba, plural: OvaHimba) are an indigenous people with an estimated population of about 50,000 people living in northern Namibia, in the Kunene Region (formerly Kaokoland) and on the other side of the Kunene River in southern Angola. There are also a few groups left of the OvaTwa, who are also OvaHimba, but are hunter-gatherers. Culturally distinguishable from the Herero people, the OvaHimba are a semi-nomadic, pastoralist people and speak OtjiHimba, a variety of Herero, which belongs to the Bantu family within Niger–Congo. The OvaHimba are semi-nomadic as they have base homesteads where crops are cultivated, but may have to move within the year depending on rainfall and where there is access to water.
