Tina Jaxa
Albertina Jaxa (born October 27, 1970) is a South African actress. Career Jaxa began her acting career in 1993, when she featured in Generations. She went on to join the cast of soap opera Isidingo for three years, and later returned to the show in 2004. Jaxa has appeared in films including Oddball Hall, The Bird Can't Fly, and I Now Pronounce You Black and White. She won an Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Film for Best Supporting Actress in a Feature Film for her role in the 2013 romantic thriller film, Of Good Report. Jaxa played domestic maintenance assistant Eve Sisulu in the eTV sitcom Madam & Eve, and her acting received positive reviews. Jaxa announced a hiatus from acting in January 2014, which lasted nine months. ''Durban Gen'' is a South African medical drama telenovela. It is an e.tv original production produced by Stained Glass TV Production, commissioned and distributed by e.tv. The medical drama is based in Durban and reflects on the struggles of the doctors and nurses in their daily lives at Durban General Hospital. Stokvel
Stokvels are invitation-only clubs of twelve or more people serving as rotating credit unions or saving schemes in South Africa where members contribute fixed sums of money to a central fund on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis. The name “stokvel” originated from the term “stock fairs”, as the rotating cattle auctions of English settlers in the Eastern Cape during the early 19th century were known. Stokvels generally have a constitution which dictates the size of the contributions, when the accumulated money is to be paid out and the roles and responsibilities of the members. Each month a different member receives the money in the fund, which was collected during that period. Defaults on contribution are quite rare as other members will know if you haven't paid your contribution, and also because the regular meetings are a reminder of what you will gain when it is your turn. ''7de Laan'' is a South African Afrikaans soap opera created by Danie Odendaal and produced by Danie Odendaal Productions. The series focuses on the lives of residents staying in and around the community of 7de Laan (7th Avenue), in the suburb of Hillside. The programme's dialogue is primarily in Afrikaans and is subtitled in English with some English and Zulu dialogue in between. The street and shopfronts which are featured on the opening visuals, are that of Seventh Street in Melville, Johannesburg. History Odendaal originally conceived of the series when he was a resident of the Melville section of Johannesburg. Krugersdorp (Afrikaans for ''Kruger's Town'') is a mining city in the West Rand, Gauteng Province, South Africa founded in 1887 by Marthinus Pretorius. Following the discovery of gold on the Witwatersrand, a need arose for a major town in the west of the reef. The government bought part of the Paardekraal farm and named the new town after the Transvaal president, Paul Kruger. A telenovela is a type of a television serial drama or soap opera produced primarily in Latin America. The word combines ''tele'' (for "television") and ''novela'' (meaning "novel"). Similar drama genres around the world include '' teleserye'' (Philippines), '' téléroman'' (Canada, specifically Quebec), and ''sinetron'' (Indonesia). Commonly described using the American colloquialism Spanish soap opera, many telenovelas share some stylistic and thematic similarities to the soap opera familiar to the English-speaking world.
