Tidal Island
A tidal island is a piece of land that is connected to the mainland by a natural or man-made causeway that is exposed at low tide and submerged at high tide. Because of the mystique surrounding tidal islands, many of them have been sites of religious worship, such as Mont-Saint-Michel with its Benedictine Abbey. Tidal islands are also commonly the sites of fortresses because of their natural fortifications. Enoshima
is a small offshore island, about in circumference, at the mouth of the Katase River which flows into the Sagami Bay of Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. Administratively, Enoshima is part of the mainland city of Fujisawa, and is linked to the Katase section of that city by a bridge. Home to some of the closest sandy beaches to Tokyo and Yokohama, the island and adjacent coastline are the hub of a local resort area. Vordingborg
Vordingborg () is an old ferry town in Vordingborg Municipality in Denmark with around 18,000 inhabitants. Because of three large estates surrounding the town, a coherent urban development has not been possible, which is the reason why three satellite towns (former villages) have emerged around the town. Within the ring of estates, the town has 12,000 inhabitants, and 17,868 inhabitants when including the three satellite towns of Ørslev, Nyråd, and Stensved, situated 1, 3 and 5 kilometres, respectively, from the town of Vordingborg. Mandø
Mandø () is one of the Danish Wadden Sea islands off the southwest coast of Jutland, Denmark in the Wadden Sea, part of the North Sea. The island covers an area of and had 40 inhabitants in January 2018. The island is part of Esbjerg Municipality and is situated approximately southwest of the ancient town of Ribe. Mandø is barely accessible at high tide over an unpaved surface level causeway of about four kilometers in length that connects the island to the mainland. Extensive mudflats and tidal marshes encircle the island and provide breeding areas to multitudes of birds and other organisms. In the past centuries a large earthen dike has been constructed around the perimeter of the island, although substantially set back from the shoreline. This artifice has allowed conventional farming in the form of grain growing and sheep grazing. Jebudo
Jebudo is an island in South Korea, located in Jebu-ri, Seosin-myeon, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do. It is connected to Songgyo-ri, Seosin-myeon, Hwaseong-si, Keonggi-do by a two-lane road, but it is impassable twice a day for three to four hours, due to the high tide. The "Jebudo Beach" which is located in southern Jebudo is renowned as a summer vacation destination. It is also popular among tourists as it is close to Seoul and Incheon. Geography Jebudo roughly forms an inverted triangle and the edge of the southwest coast stretches away into the sea like the tail of swallow. The relatively flat coastline contains many large mud flats. While the mainland is dominated by agricultural activities, the coastline has been mainly developed for tourism. Modo, Jindo
Modo Island is a small island in Jindo County, South Jeolla province, South Korea, just off the southwest corner of the Korean peninsula. It is located to the south-east of Jindo Island and is about 1.1 km long and 300 meters wide. Jindo Island
Jindo Island is the third largest island in South Korea. Together with a group of much smaller islands, it forms Jindo County. It is located in South Jeolla province, just off the southwest corner of the Korean peninsula. The island is separated from the mainland by the Myeongnyang Strait; however, this strait is now spanned by South Korea's longest cable-stayed bridge spanning 484 meters. Here in 1597 admiral Yi Sun-sin won the Battle of Myeongnyang, defeating a vastly superior Japanese fleet. The Korea Jindo Dog is native to Jindo Island. Kinmen, alternatively known as Quemoy, is a group of islands governed as a county by the Republic of China (Taiwan), off the southeastern coast of mainland China. Jiangong Islet
The Jiangong Islet () (also Jiangong Yu, United States National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency) is a tidal island in Jincheng Township, Kinmen County, Fujian Province, Republic of China (Taiwan). History The islet was originally named Chu Islet. In 1949, the Republic of China Armed Forces occupied the islet and built the Lion Fort, Andutou and Koxinga Shrine Barracks. In 1960, the Ministry of the Interior approved the renaming of the islet to become Jiangong Islet. On 20 October 1997, the Kinmen Defense Command withdrew military personnel from the islet and Kinmen County Government resumed control of it. In 2002, the county government began restoring the area and opened to promote tourism. In September 2016, the islet was damaged by Typhoon Meranti. Penghu
The Penghu (, Hokkien POJ: ''Phîⁿ-ô͘'' or ''Phêⁿ-ô͘'' ) or Pescadores Islands are an archipelago of 90 islands and islets in the Taiwan Strait, located approximately west from the main island of Taiwan, covering an area of .
