Tibor Molnár (footballer Born 1952)
Tibor Molnar (born June 6, 1952) is a Hungarian former footballer who played as a midfielder in the North American Soccer League, the Canadian National Soccer League, and the Major Indoor Soccer League in the 1970s and early 1980s. Early life Born in Budapest, he grew up in the same neighborhood as indoor soccer hall-of-famer, Juli Veee. Like many, he disliked how the totalitarian, communist government controlled nearly every aspect of a Hungarian's life, and dreamed of life in a free society like the U.S. By his own accounts, he and a friend were always trying to sneak away to the west, posing as tourists, but were regularly stopped at the border. Rather than place him in jail and put him on trial, as would likely happen to adults at that time, the border guards would merely put him and his friend on a bus back home. Major Indoor Soccer League (1978–1992)
The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL), known in its final two seasons as the Major Soccer League, was an indoor soccer league in the United States that played matches from fall 1978 to spring 1992. History The MISL was founded by businessmen Ed Tepper and Earl Foreman in October 1977. The league fielded six teams for its inaugural 1978–79 season. Before folding after 14 seasons of competition, at the conclusion of the 1991–92 season, a total of 24 franchises – under 31 team names (seven teams changed city/name) – had played in the MISL. 1971 NASL Professional Hoc-Soc Tournament
The 1971 NASL Professional Hoc-Soc Tournament was the first indoor variant of soccer sanctioned by the North American Soccer League. It was held in St. Louis, Missouri on the evening of March 19, 1971 and involved four of the league's eight franchises. Overview Indoor soccer tournaments had been played in one form or another in North America throughout much of the 20th century, but 1971 marked the first time that a Division One professional league organized an indoor competition for its member clubs. The total purse was $2,800. The winning side received $1,000, while the runners-up earned $750. The winners and losers of the third place match made $600 and $450 respectively. Indoor Soccer
Indoor soccer or arena soccer (known internationally as indoor football, fast football, or showball) is five-a-side version of minifootball, derived from association football and adapted to be played in walled hardcourt indoor arena. Indoor soccer, as it is most often known in the United States and Canada, was originally developed in these two countries as a way to play soccer during the winter months, when snow would make outdoor play difficult. In those countries, gymnasiums are adapted for indoor soccer play. Victor Kodelja
Victor Kodelja (born November 26, 1951) is a former member of the Canadian national soccer team and North American Soccer League. Professional Prior to playing professionally, Kodelja played in the Pacific Coast Soccer League, playing at least the 1969–70 season with Columbus F.C. In 1974, he signed with the Vancouver Whitecaps in the team's inaugural season in the league. In 1976, he moved to the San Antonio Thunder. At the end of the season, the team moved to Hawaii where it became Team Hawaii in 1977. In 1978, he was back on the mainland with the San Jose Earthquakes; 1981 with the Calgary Boomers; 1982 and 1983 with the Toronto Blizzard; and 1984 with the Chicago Sting.
