Tiananmen East Station
Tian'anmendong () is a station on Line 1 of the Beijing Subway. It provides the most direct access to many Beijing tourist sites, including Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, and the National Museum of China. Location The station is located on the eastern side of Tian'anmen Square and next to the north entrance of the National Museum of China. East Chang'an Avenue
East Chang'an Avenue () is a major road in Beijing, China. It forms part of the extended Chang'an Avenue. It leaves Tian'anmen Square heading east until the Dongdan intersection. Easily recognised for the crossing with Wangfujing, Beijing's well-known commercial district, it also is home to the Beijing Hotel and the Grand Hotel Beijing. Dongcheng District, Beijing
The Dongcheng District (; literally "east city district") of Beijing covers the eastern half of Beijing's urban core, including all of the eastern half of the Old City inside of the 2nd Ring Road with the northernmost extent crossing into the area within the 3rd Ring Road. Its area is further subdivided into 17 subdistricts. Settlement in the area dates back over a millennium. It did not formally become a district of the city until the establishment of the Republic of China in 1911. The name Dongcheng was first given to it in a 1958 reorganization; it has existed in its current form since a 2010 merger with the former Chongwen District to its south. Island Platform
An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. They are also useful within larger stations where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be provided from opposite sides of the same platform thereby simplifying transfers between the two tracks. An alternative arrangement is to position side platforms on either side of the tracks. The historical use of island platforms depends greatly upon the location. Line 1, Beijing Subway
Line 1 of the Beijing Subway () is the oldest and one of the busiest lines of Beijing's mass transit rail network. Line 1 runs underneath Chang'an Avenue, the city's grand east–west thoroughfare, right through the heart of Beijing with stops on either side of Tiananmen Square. Line 1's color is red.
