Thomas Hooker is a Republican Party (United States), Republican politician from the U.S. state of Michigan. He is currently a member of the Michigan House of Representatives, representing the Michigan's 77th House of Representatives district, 77th District which covers the city of Wyoming, Michigan, Wyoming and Byron Township, Michigan, Byron Township. Representative Hooker was elected in 2010 and is currently serving his third term as a State Representative. Prior to becoming a member of the Michigan House, Hooker was a school teacher in the Byron Center School District for 37 years. The Michigan House of Representatives is the lower house of the Michigan Legislature. There are 110 members, each of whom is elected from constituencies having approximately 77,000 to 91,000 residents, based on population figures from the 2010 U.S. Census. Its composition, powers and duties are established in Article IV of the Michigan Constitution. Members are elected in even-numbered years and take office at 12 p.m. (EST) on January 1 following the November general election. Concurrently with the Michigan Senate, the House first convenes on the second Wednesday in January, according to the state constitution. Each member is limited to serving three terms of two years. Grand Valley State University (GVSU, GV, or Grand Valley) is a public university in Allendale, Michigan. It was established in 1960 as Grand Valley State College.
