Thomas Alfred Thompson
Thomas Alfred Thompson (August 5, 1868 – May 12, 1953) was a farmer and political figure in Ontario, Canada. He represented Lanark North in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1923 to 1929 and Lanark in the House of Commons of Canada from 1930 to 1940 as a Conservative member. He was born in Ramsay Township, Ontario Mississippi Mills is a town in eastern Ontario, Canada, in Lanark County on the Mississippi River (Ontario), Mississippi River. Lanark (federal Electoral District)
Lanark was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1917 to 1968. It was located in the province of Ontario. This riding was first created in 1914 from Lanark North and Lanark South ridings. It consisted of the county of Lanark. The electoral district was abolished in 1966 when it was redistributed between Frontenac—Lennox and Addington and Lanark and Renfrew ridings. Mississippi Mills is a town in eastern Ontario, Canada, in Lanark County on the Mississippi River (Ontario), Mississippi River. It is made up of the former Townships of Ramsay and Pakenham, as well as the Town of Almonte. It is partly located within Canada's National Capital Region (Canada), National Capital Region. History The Town of Mississippi Mills was incorporated on January 1, 1998, by amalgamating the town of Almonte, Ontario, Almonte with the townships of Ramsay and Pakenham. Almonte's first settler was David Shepherd, who in 1819 was granted by the Crown to build and operate a Mill (grinding), mill. The site became known as Shepherd's Falls. That name was never official, however, as Shepherd sold his Letters patent, patent after his mill burned down. William Samuel Murphy
William Samuel Murphy (12 February 1882 – 29 April 1961) was an Independent Conservative member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in Portland, Ontario and became a physician. Murphy attended public school at Portland, then secondary school at Athens, Ontario before further studies at Queen's University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts and Doctor of Medicine (MD, CM) degrees. He settled in Smiths Falls, Ontario where he became a director of Northern Buttons Ltd. and from 1916 to 1918 served as that town's mayor.
