Thika District
Thika District is a former administrative district in the Central Province of Kenya. Its capital town was Thika. The district was adjacent to the northeastern border of Nairobi. The district had a population of 645.71 In 2010, the district was eliminated and absorbed into Kiambu County. The district was predominantly rural, but its urban population was soaring as Nairobi is growing rapidly. Kikuyu were the dominant tribe in the district. Districts Of Kenya
Sub-counties are the decentralised units through which county governments of Kenya will provide functions and services. Except for the parts which fall under urban areas, sub-counties will coincide with the constituencies created under article 89 of the Constitution of Kenya. Sub-counties will be headed by a sub-county administrator, appointed by a County Public Service Board. Under the former Constitution of Kenya, the Provinces of Kenya were subdivided into a number of districts (''wilaya''). Central Province (Kenya)
The Central Province ( sw, Kati, ) was a region in central Kenya until 2013, when Kenya's provinces were replaced by a system of counties. It covered an area of and was located to the north of Nairobi and west of Mount Kenya (''see maps''). The province had 4,383,743 inhabitants according to the 2009 census. The provincial headquarters was Nyeri. Central Province was the ancestral home of the Gikuyu people. Climate The climate of Central Province is generally cooler than that of the rest of Kenya, due to the region's higher altitude. Rainfall is fairly reliable, falling in two seasons, one from early March to May (the long rains) and a second during October and November (the short rains). Thika
Thika Thika (pronounced [ˈθika]) is an industrial town and a major commerce hub in Kiambu County, Kenya, lying on the A2 road 42 kilometres (26 mi) Northeast of Nairobi, near the confluence of the Thika and Chania Rivers. Although Thika town is administratively in Kiambu County, the greater area comprises residential areas such as Bendor estate, Maporomoko, Thika Greens, Thika Golden Pearl, Bahati Ridge, and Thika Sports Club, among others that are within Murang'a County. As of the 2019 National Census, Thika had a population of 279,429, which is growing rapidly, as is the greater Nairobi area. Its elevation is approximately 1,631 metres (5,351 ft). Kiambu County
Kiambu County is a county in the former Central Province of Kenya. Its capital is Kiambu and its largest town is Thika. Kiambu County is the second most populous after Nairobi County. Kiambu County borders Nairobi and Kajiado Counties to the South, Machakos to the East, Murang'a to the North and North East, Nyandarua to the North West, and Nakuru to the West and has a population of 2,417,735. Kikuyu People
The Kikuyu (also ''Agĩkũyũ/Gĩkũyũ'') are a Bantu ethnic group native to Central Kenya. At a population of 8,148,668 as of 2019, they account for 17.13% of the total population of Kenya, making them Kenya's largest ethnic group. The term ''Kikuyu'' is derived from the Swahili form of the word Gĩkũyũ. is derived from the word mũkũyũ which means sycamore fig (''mũkũyũ'') tree". Hence ''Agĩkũyũ'' in the Kikuyu language translates to "Children Of The Big Sycamore". Ruiru
Ruiru is a municipality and sub-county in Kiambu County. It sits within the greater Nairobi Metropolitan region. Gatundu
Gatundu is a small town in Kiambu County of Kenya. It is known for the first Kenyan president Jomo Kenyatta who lived about three kilometres away from the town, as well as his son, Uhuru Kenyatta, now the 4th President of Kenya and former Member of Parliament representing Gatundu South Constituency. Kamwangi
Kamwangi is a settlement Kiambu County, Kenya, in the former Central Province. Location It is a small town along Thika - Naivasha road. It's located west of Thika. There is however, a minor road connecting the town to Gatundu through Kang'oo. Economic activities The main economic activity practised in the area is trading. There is a very busy market conducted twice in a week;Tuesday and Friday. Buyers and sellers walk or travel long distance to Kamwangi on market days. Big shops in the town also attract many people from the nearby villages. The town lacks financial institutions apart from the TAI Sacco Society Ltdlocated at Thika road. Gatundu South Constituency
Gatundu South is an electoral constituency in Kiambu County, Kenya and the seat of the District Officer in Gatundu Town. It is one of twelve constituencies in Kiambu County. The constituency has four wards, Kiamwangi, Kiganjo, Ndarugo and Ng'enda all of them are within Kiambu County council. The constituency was established before the 1997 General Elections.
