The Star Inn
The Star Inn is a gastropub/restaurant located in the village of Harome near Helmsley in North Yorkshire, England. The pub has been in the village since the 19th century and the building dates back to the 14th century. It has been known for the quality of its food since the 1970s. The current owner is Andrew Pern who took over in 1996 originally with his then wife, Jacquie Pern. He has continued the tradition for quality food, gaining several awards. , the restaurant holds one star in the Michelin Guide, an award it regained in 2014 having previously held it from 2002 to 2011. The building was designated as a Grade II listed building in January 1955. The pub was badly damaged by a fire in November 2021. Harome
Harome is a small village and civil parish in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire, England, around south-east of the market town of Helmsley, and north-east of York. The village has a population of 261 people according to the 2011 UK census, and a total land area of 9,539 sq metres. It is situated to the east of the River Riccal. The village has 109 households, with agriculture and retail trade being the two main employers for the residents. The name Harome simply means rocks/stones, and translates from old English meaning a heap of stones. History Until the nineteenth century, the village was known as Harum. BBC Radio York is the BBC's local radio station serving the county of North Yorkshire. It broadcasts on FM, DAB, digital TV and via BBC Sounds from studios in the Bootham area of York. Egon Ronay
Egon Miklos Ronay (24 July 1915 – 12 June 2010) was a Hungarian-born food critic who wrote and published a famous series of guides to British and Irish restaurants and hotels in the 1950s and 1960s. These guidebooks are credited with raising the quality of British cuisine offered in public eating places. Ronay also championed foreign cuisine for British diners.
