The Sleep Of The Island
''The Sleep of the Island'' is a Romanian film from 1994 directed by Mircea Veroiu, inspired from the novel ''The Second Messenger'' written by Bujor Nedelcovici. Plot The topic of the film points out the condition of an intellectual in time of totalitarian dictatorship, which subjugated an island from where you can not run. The only alternative is collaborating with power and internment in a rehabilitation institute. A famous writer returns to his homeland to try to confront the terror of an oppressive regime, but he ends up being himself corrupted-thanks to the aberrant system. Mircea Veroiu (; 29 April 1941 – 26 December 1997) was a Romanian film director and screenwriter. He directed 22 films between 1968 and 1997. He was a member of the jury at the 41st Berlin International Film Festival. Vlad Rădescu
Vlad Rădescu (; born 18 November 1952 in Bucharest) is a Romanian actor, theatre director and scholar. Biography Radescu was born on November 18, 1952 in Bucharest. He attended Dimitrie Cantemir High School and the twelfth grade at Ion Luca Caragiale High School, both in Bucharest, where he graduated in 1971. He wanted to become a sailor, physician, journalist and archaeologist, but in the end chose theatre and graduated from the Institute of Theatre and Film Arts (IATC), Theatre Department, in 1975, having studied under Sanda Manu and Geta Angheluţă. He was assigned to Targu Mures in 1975 where he remained until 1994. During this period his theater and film career continued to prosper. He had the chance to travel a few times in Europe. An ion () is an atom or molecule with a net electrical charge. Bujor Nedelcovici (; born March 16, 1936, Bârlad, Romania) is a novelist, essayist, playwright, screenwriter, journalist and photographer who lives in Paris, France. Bujor Nedelcovici finished High School at "I. L. Caragiale" in Ploiești, Romania. He graduated from the Bucharest Law Faculty in 1959. For a short period he worked as a lawyer at the Ploiești Lawyer's Bar Association. He was fired on political reasons and forbidden to practice law (His father was arrested by the Communist regime and imprisoned).
