The Mandrake (1965 Film)
''The Mandrake'' (Italian: ''La Mandragola''; also called ''Mandragola: The Love Root'') is a 1965 Franco-Italian co-production directed by Alberto Lattuada and based on the eponymous 16th-century play by Italian author Niccolò Machiavelli. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Costume Design. Plot During a long stay in Paris, the young Callimaco learns from his friend Cammillo Calfucci of the beauty of Lucrezia, who has been married for four years with the rich and silly notary Nicia Calfucci, from whom she cannot have children. Returning to Florence, he sees for the first time and falls in love with the woman, who tries to meet and seduce but without success. Alberto Lattuada
Alberto Lattuada (; 13 November 1914 – 3 July 2005) was an Italian film director. Career Lattuada was born in Vaprio d'Adda, the son of composer Felice Lattuada. He was initially interested in literature, becoming, while still a student, a member of the editorial staff of the antifascist fortnightly ''Camminare...'' (1932) and part of the artists' group ''Corrente di Vita'' (1938). Before entering the film industry, Lattuada's father made him complete his studies as an architect even though he recognized his desire to make movies. He began his film career as a screenwriter and assistant director on Mario Soldati's '' Piccolo mondo antico'' ("Old-Fashioned World", 1940). Armando Bandini
Armando Bandini (born Armando Burlando; 5 June 1926 – 27 May 2011) was an Italian film, television and voice actor. Biography Born in Genoa, Bandini began his career as an actor after the war at the Teatro Sperimentale Luigi Pirandello. In the 1950s he moved to Rome, where he was protagonist of the revue ''Il dente senza giudizio'' and started working in films and on television. Bandini even worked as a voice dubber. He performed the Italian voices of some major Hollywood stars in at least one of two of their films. Among his most prominent dubbing roles, he was the Italian voice of Chi-Fu in the 1998 animated film ''Mulan''. Personal life In the late 1940s, Bandini married stage actress Emma Fedeli and they were together until her death in 1980. He then married actress Daniela Igliozzi.
