The Gothenburg Address
The Gothenburg Address is a Scottish, Edinburgh-based post-rock band. History The Gothenburg Address was formed in Edinburgh in 2008 by guitarist Luke Joyce, formerly of Raising Miss June. Its earliest lineup consisted of Chris Bathgate ( Arab Strap), David Jeans (Arab Strap, The Zephyrs) and bassist Rob Doig ( The Fuse). Playing a series of low key shows around Glasgow and Edinburgh, the band quickly built up a following, culminating in them playing the main stage at George Square, Glasgow at the Winterfest Festival to an audience of several thousand people. George Square
George Square ( gd, Ceàrnag Sheòrais) is the principal civic square in the city of Glasgow, Scotland. It is one of six squares in the city centre, the others being Cathedral Square, St Andrew's Square, St Enoch Square, Royal Exchange Square, and Blythswood Square on Blythswood Hill. Rückenfigur
The ''Rückenfigur'' (literally "back-figure") is a compositional device in painting, graphic art, photography and film. A person is seen from behind in the foreground of the image, contemplating the view before them, and is a means by which the viewer can identify with the image's figure and then recreate the space to be conveyed. It is commonly associated with German Romantic painting and particularly the landscape painter Caspar David Friedrich. The ''Rückenfigur'' motif dates to antiquity and has since been employed in many different eras and styles of art. Before Friedrich, such figures were not generally the subject of the work. Giotto's ''Lamentation of Christ'' (1300s) is any early example of non-subject figures turned from the viewer. The ''Rückenfigur'' may also take the form of staffage. Mogwai
Mogwai () are a Scottish post-rock band, formed in 1995 in Glasgow. The band consists of Stuart Braithwaite (guitar, vocals), Barry Burns (guitar, piano, synthesizer, vocals), Dominic Aitchison (bass guitar), and Martin Bulloch (drums). Mogwai typically compose lengthy guitar-based instrumental pieces that feature dynamic contrast, melodic bass guitar lines, and heavy use of distortion and effects. Post-rock
Post-rock is a form of experimental rock characterized by a focus on exploring textures and timbre over traditional rock song structures, chords, or riffs. Post-rock artists are often instrumental, typically combining rock instrumentation with electronics. The genre emerged within the indie and underground music scene of the 1980s and early 1990s. However, due to its abandonment of rock conventions, it often bears little resemblance musically to contemporary indie rock, borrowing instead from diverse sources including ambient, electronica, jazz, krautrock, dub, and minimalist classical.
