The Concert (1961 Film)
"The Concert" is a 1961 Australian TV GTV-9's Melbourne studios. It was directed by Rod Kinnear. Australian TV drama was relatively rare at the time. Plot Anne is a nurse who is blinded in an air raid during World War Two. Her aim is to move back to France to the village where she was blinded and help blind people. Determined to be independent, she originally lives with her sister Jenny then moves in to her own apartment. While Jenny is away for two weeks, Anne falls for one of her upstairs neighbours, a writer called Jennings, not knowing he is black. Jennings decides not to tell Anne he is black and moves away. He tells his friend Standish about the affair. The General Motors Hour
''The General Motors Hour'' was an Australian radio and television drama series. Radio The radio series was a regular one hour drama broadcast over the Macquarie Radio Network at 8 pm on Thursays. It is believed to have commenced in the late 1940s and lasted into the early 1960s. Producers included Robert Peach and Harry Dearth. The announcer was John Dease. 15 episodes are available on the Old Time Radio website. Television The television version of The General Motors Hour was a loosely scheduled occasional series which aired on Australian television from 1960 to 1962. The series aired on ATN-7 in Sydney and GTV-9 in Melbourne, as well as on other affiliated stations across Australia. Chester Leroy Harriott (24 February 1933 – 4 July 2013) was a Jamaican-born pianist and entertainer known for his eight years as one part of the variety act Harriott and Evans. Life Harriott was born in St Thomas, Jamaica, the son of a doctor's assistant, Oscar Harriott, and his wife, Minna, (née Powell), a teacher. They later moved to the island's capital, Kingston, then the United States to study, leaving Chester and his siblings with relatives. A gifted pianist from a young age, he appeared on local radio stations and followers set up a fund for him to study in London; in 1950, he joined Trinity College of Music and while there met Arthur Bennett, who taught him modern music. Victor Brown (died 2016), known professionally as Vic Evans, was a Cuban-born, Jamaican-British variety performer, known for being one half of Harriott & Evans. Life Victor Brown was born in Banes, Cuba, the son of Jamaican parents: John Brown, an engineer, and his wife Mirian, ''née'' Brown. He trained as an engine-room seaman and left Jamaica for Britain in 1939, before serving in World War II.
