The Beautiful Music
The Beautiful Music (TBM) is a Canadian record label started in 2002 by Wally Salem, specializing in indie pop, and inventing Post Mod, and Janglewave music genres. Acts include Skytone, Nick Danger & the Danger City Rebels, The Mules, Jeremy GluckDot Dash Roy Moller, The Yellow Melodies, The Higher Elevations and The Social Icons. TBM has gained popularity since 2004 as the label that is releasing a ten volume tribute series to the Television Personalities. The first three volumes are completed with the fourth volume now being compiled. Indie Pop
Indie pop (also typeset as indie-pop or indiepop) is a music genre and subculture that combines guitar pop with DIY ethic in opposition to the style and tone of mainstream pop music. It originated from British post-punk in the late 1970s and subsequently generated a thriving fanzine, Independent record label, label, and club and gig circuit. Compared to its counterpart, indie rock, the genre is more melodic, less abrasive, and relatively angst-free. In later years, the definition of ''indie pop'' has bifurcated to also mean bands from unrelated DIY scenes/movements with pop leanings. Subgenres include chamber pop and twee pop. Skytone (band)
Skytone are a Canadian duo from Ottawa consisting of brothers Rodney and Darius Doddridge. Their sound is generally considered jangle, indie pop with Rodney and Darius singing and playing all instruments on their albums. Recording and mixing is done at their home studio and albums are produced by Rodney. Nick Danger & The Danger City Rebels
Nick Danger and the Danger City Rebels were a Canadian rock band led by Nick Danger in the 2000s. The original band, was billed as "The Social Icons" in 2000, before developing the Nick Danger persona and becoming The Danger City Rebels (DCR). It featured Nick Danger and drummer CHUNKK Neilson (recruited from Ottawa band Tremolo). The sound of the band owed a great deal to the influence of The Velvet Underground, Hank Williams and The Ventures, and balanced somewhere between "Cowpunk" and "surf rock". The second band signed to Ottawa's The Beautiful Music record label. Their series of recordings entitled "Thrillogy of Danger" was a three EP set of CDs. The first was titled ''The Return of Nick Danger'' and the third was titled ''Escape from Danger City''. According to Allan Wigney in the April 5, 2006 interview, the second album was never released due to legal issues. The Social Icons
The Social Icons are a Canadian indie rock band formed in 2009 in Ottawa. Formed by Nickolai Dangeroso (formerly Nick Danger) who is the principal songwriter as well as vocalist and guitarist. The other members of the band are Terry O'Reilly on bass guitar and CHUNKK on percussion. They are one of the original artists on Ottawa based indie label, The Beautiful Music along with Skytone (band). After the breakup Nick Danger and the Danger City Rebels and departure of original bassist "Popsicle" Pete Connell, they recruited ex-Tremolo bassist Terry O'Reilly. Although they played a few more gigs as Nick Danger, they agreed that the DCR was over. The sonic direction of their music had evolved. Dangeroso's original surf/rock sound had broadened to include other influences, including O'Reilly's 90's grunge-rock inspired bass stylings and Nielson's funk-infused drum beats. The Barracudas
The Barracudas are an English surf music, surf rock band formed in late 1978. The band's original line-up consisted of Jeremy Gluck (Singing, vocals), Robin Wills (guitar and vocals), Starkie Phillips (Bass guitar, bass and vocals) and Adam Phillips (Drum kit, drums). Before the band recorded its first single, Starkie and Adam Phillips left the band. The band is notable for their 1980 hit single "Summer Fun", which started with an excerpt from a 1960s spoof advertisement for the Plymouth Barracuda campaign. The song included dialogue where announcers had difficulty pronouncing the word ''barracuda''. The single reached number 37 on the UK Singles Chart. The band officially lasted until 1981 with a final performance in Madrid. There have been few occasional performances since.
