The Beach (TV Series)
''The Beach'' is an Australian television documentary series on SBS TV and NITV. The six-part documentary series first screened as a special three-hour TV event on 29 May 2020. It was created, directed by Aboriginal filmmaker Warwick Thornton who also stars in it and is filmed by his son Dylan River for Exile Productions. Filmed in Jilirr, Dampier Peninsula, on the north-west coast of Western Australia, ''The Beach'' was filmed over a month at a lone beachside shack that was constructed for the documentary. The series has a focus on food; Thornton forages and fishes around his camp, using an ancient Toyota Jeep (which earlier appeared in an episode of ''Mystery Road''). SBS (Australian TV Channel)
SBS is a national public television network in Australia. Launched on 24 October 1980, it is the responsibility of SBS's television division, and is available nationally. NITV
National Indigenous Television (NITV) is an Australian free-to-air television channel that broadcasts programming produced and presented largely by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It includes the half-hourly nightly ''NITV News'', with programming including other news and current affairs programmes, sports coverage, entertainment for children and adults, films and documentaries covering a range of topics. Its primary audience is Indigenous Australians, but many non-Indigenous people tune in to learn more about the history of and issues affecting the country's First Nations peoples. Warwick Thornton
Warwick Thornton (born 1970) is an Australian film director, screenwriter and cinematographer. His debut feature film ''Samson and Delilah'' won the Caméra d'Or at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival and the award for Best Film at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards. He also won the Asia Pacific Screen Award for Best Film in 2017 for '' Sweet Country''. Early life and education Thornton is a Kaytetye man born and raised in Alice Springs. His mother Freda Glynn co-founded and was the first director of the Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association (CAAMA) and was the director of Imparja Television for its first 10 years. Dylan River
Dylan River is an Australian film director, writer, and cinematographer. Early life and family River was born in Alice Springs, Northern Territory. His father, Warwick Thornton, is a filmmaker and his mother, Penelope McDonald, is a producer. He is the grandson of Freda Glynn, the co-founder of CAAMA. Career River's work includes writing, direction and cinematography. In 2013, his debut feature documentary, ''Buckskin'', won the Foxtel Australian Documentary Prize. Dampier Peninsula
The Dampier Peninsula is a peninsula located north of Broome and Roebuck Bay in Western Australia. It is surrounded by the Indian Ocean to the west and north, and King Sound to the east. It is named after the mariner and explorer William Dampier who visited it. The northernmost part of the peninsula is Cape Leveque. It is sparsely inhabited, mostly by Indigenous Australian peoples, some of whom have been granted native title rights to some of their traditional lands. There are many coastal inlets, bays and other features, including Beagle Bay on its western side. Mystery Road (TV Series)
''Mystery Road'' is an Australian television crime mystery series whose first series screened on ABC TV from 3 June 2018. The series is a spin-off from Ivan Sen's feature films ''Mystery Road'' and ''Goldstone'', taking place in between the two. Aboriginal Australian detective Jay Swan, played by Aaron Pedersen, is the main character and actor in both the films and in the first two TV series, each of six episodes. Series 1 was directed by Rachel Perkins. Swan is brought in to solve a murder, with the local police officer played by Judy Davis. In Series 2, directed by Warwick Thornton and Wayne Blair, which began airing on the ABC on 19 April 2020, Swan is brought in to solve a murder in a different location, with the "local copper" this time played by Jada Alberts. River Cottage
River Cottage is a brand used for a number of ventures by television chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. These include a long-running Channel 4 television series, cookery courses, events, restaurants and products such as beer and organic yogurts. There are two River Cottage Kitchen restaurants championing organic and local food. These can be found in Axminster and Winchester. River Cottage HQ is a 100-acre farm on the Devon/Dorset border that follows the farm to fork ethos through its various endeavours. Among other things these include: cookery, gardening and craft courses, long table dining feasts in the 18th Century Threshing barn and the 17th Century farmhouse which appeared in many of the later TV shows has recently been renovated to now host guests on a B&B and whole house rental basis.
