Araceae
The Araceae are a family of monocotyledonous flowering plants in which flowers are borne on a type of inflorescence called a spadix. The spadix is usually accompanied by, and sometimes partially enclosed in, a spathe (or leaf-like bract). Also known as the arum family, members are often colloquially known as aroids. This family of 140 genera and about 4,075 known species is most diverse in the New World tropics, although also distributed in the Old World tropics and northern temperate regions. Many species display very decorative leaves and flowers, and they are widely used for gardening; popular as indoor plants and also outdoor plants where climates are mild, and winter freezes will not generally occur. However, some temperate species are also very popular in Mediterranean-climate gardening, or in moderately cool temperate zones, such as ''Zantedeschia''. Description Species within Araceae are often rhizomatous or tuberous, and the leaves nearly always contain calcium oxa ...

Thaumatophyllum
''Thaumatophyllum'' (formerly '' Meconostigma'') is a genus of flowering plants in the arum family, Araceae. Its species are native to northern (tropical) South America. Taxonomy The genus ''Thaumatophyllum'' was erected by Heinrich Wilhelm Schott in 1859, with the sole species '' Thaumatophyllum spruceanum''. In 1962, G.M. Barroso transferred ''T. spruceanum'' to ''Philodendron''. (However, the transfer was not made correctly and Barroso's name ''Philodendron spruceanum'' is illegitimate.) While in ''Philodendron'', ''T. spruceanum'' was placed, along with other species, in subgenus ''Meconostigma''. A series of molecular phylogenetic studies, particularly from 2008 onwards, suggested that, when broadly circumscribed, ''Philodendron'' was not monophyletic. In 2018, it was proposed that subgenus ''Meconostigma'' should be raised to the rank of genus, under the name ''Thaumatophyllum''. The proposal has been accepted by Plants of the World Online, among other taxonomic d ...

Flora Of Southern America
Flora is all the plant life present in a particular region or time, generally the naturally occurring (indigenous) native plants. Sometimes bacteria and fungi are also referred to as flora, as in the terms ''gut flora'' or ''skin flora''. Etymology The word "flora" comes from the Latin name of Flora, the goddess of plants, flowers, and fertility in Roman mythology. The technical term "flora" is then derived from a metonymy of this goddess at the end of the sixteenth century. It was first used in poetry to denote the natural vegetation of an area, but soon also assumed the meaning of a work cataloguing such vegetation. Moreover, "Flora" was used to refer to the flowers of an artificial garden in the seventeenth century. The distinction between vegetation (the general appearance of a community) and flora (the taxonomic composition of a community) was first made by Jules Thurmann (1849). Prior to this, the two terms were used indiscriminately.Thurmann, J. (1849). ''Essai de Phyt ...
