Terry Wharton
Terence J. Wharton (born 1 July 1942) is a former professional footballer who scored 98 goals in 347 appearances in the English Football League. He played as a winger for Wolverhampton Wanderers, Bolton Wanderers, Crystal Palace, Walsall and Kidderminster Harriers in a 17-year senior career spanning from 1957 to 1974. Outside of England he played for the Los Angeles Wolves, effectively Wolverhampton Wanderers under another name, in the United Soccer Association and for Durban City in South Africa. Renowned for his penalty-taking, Wharton converted 43 penalty kicks out of the 44 that he took during his career. This would rank him among the top three most successful penalty takers in Football League history alongside Graham Alexander (49 out of 51) and Matthew Le Tissier (47 out of 48). Bolton
Bolton (, locally ) is a large town in Greater Manchester in North West England, formerly a part of Lancashire. A former mill town, Bolton has been a production centre for textiles since Flemish people, Flemish weavers settled in the area in the 14th century, introducing a wool and cotton-weaving tradition. The urbanisation and development of the town largely coincided with the introduction of textile manufacture during the Industrial Revolution. Plymouth Argyle Football Club is a professional football club based in the city of Plymouth, Devon, England. As of the 2021–22 season, the team are competing in League One, the third tier of English football. They have played at Home Park, known as the "Theatre of Greens", since 1901. Francis Lee (footballer)
Francis Henry Lee (born 29 April 1944) is an English former professional footballer who played as a forward. Lee played for Bolton Wanderers, Manchester City, Derby County and England. A fast forward, he won League Championship medals with Manchester City and Derby, and scored more than 200 goals in his career. In 2010, he was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame. He holds the English record for the greatest number of penalties scored in a season, a feat that earned him the nickname ''Lee 1 (Pen)'' because that was the way his name always seemed to appear on the list of goal scores for City in the match results listings in the Sunday papers. Football League First Division
The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions. The First Division contained between 12 and 24 clubs, playing each other home and away in a double round robin. The competition was based on two points for a win from 1888 until the increase to three points for a win in 1981. After the creation of the Premier League, the name First Division was given to the second-tier division (from 1992). The name ceased to exist after the 2003–04 First Division season. Carlisle ( , ; from xcb, Caer Luel) is a city that lies within the Northern English county of Cumbria, south of the Scottish border at the confluence of the rivers Eden, Caldew and Petteril. The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. First played during the 1871–72 season, it is the oldest national football competition in the world. It is organised by and named after The Football Association (The FA). Mark Lazarus
Mark Lazarus (born 5 December 1938) is an English retired professional footballer. He played as a right winger and made more than 400 Football League appearances, scoring over 100 goals. A prominent Jewish player, he initially chose football over boxing and followed manager Alec Stock first to Leyton Orient and then Queens Park Rangers. He transferred to Wolverhampton Wanderers for a club record fee, but due to a clash with manager Stan Cullis, he moved back to QPR after only nine games. He then played for Brentford before signing again for Queens Park Rangers. In his third stint with QPR he scored the winning goal for the club in the 1967 League Cup Final. He moved to Crystal Palace in December 1967. He moved back to Leyton Orient, before moving onto non-league football where he saw out his football career. Ipswich Town
Ipswich Town Football Club is a professional association football club based in Ipswich, Suffolk, England. They play in League One, the third tier of the English football league system. Molineux Stadium ( ) in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, England, has been the home ground of Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers since 1889. The first stadium built for use by a Football League club, it was one of the first British grounds to have floodlights installed and hosted some of the earliest European club games in the 1950s.
