Tennis
Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. The object of the game is to manoeuvre the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. The player who is unable to return the ball validly will not gain a point, while the opposite player will. Tennis is an Olympic sport and is played at all levels of society and at all ages. The sport can be played by anyone who can hold a racket, including wheelchair users. The modern game of tennis originated in Birmingham, England, in the late 19th century as lawn tennis. Vadim Borisov
Vadim Borisov (born 30 April 1955) is a former Russian tennis player who competed for the Soviet Union. Career At the 1973 French Open, Borisov competed in both the men's doubles (with Viorel Marcu) and mixed doubles (with Natasha Chmyreva), but was unable to progress past the opening round in either. His only other Grand Slam appearance came in the 1976 Wimbledon Championships, where he lost in the first round of the singles draw, to Kenichi Hirai. He also played in the mixed doubles, again partnering Natasha Chmyreva and once more lost in the opening round. Borisov won five medals in the Summer Universiade during his career, including two gold medals at Mexico City in 1979. Sergey Leonyuk (born 3 April 1960) is a former professional tennis player from Belarus. Biography Leonyuk was born in Minsk, the capital of the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic, modern day Belarus. He represented the Soviet Union and was a nine time Soviet champion. In 1978 he played in a Grand Prix tournament in Calcutta, India. He lost in the first round of the singles to Ramesh Krishnan and also played in the doubles draw with Igor Tihonenko. Virginia Ruzici (born 31 January 1955) is a former professional tennis player from Romania. She won the 1978 French Open singles championship. Career Ruzici became a professional tennis player in 1975. One of her main assets on court was her powerful forehand. Biography Henry had a noted school career, winning three consecutive CIF Southern Section singles titles from 1977 to 1979, while attending Glendale High School in California.
