State Route 197 (SR 197) is a secondary west–east state road located in West Tennessee. Route description SR 197 starts at US 45 ( SR 5) in Pinson in Madison County. It crosses the South Fork of the Forked Deer River and is called locally Ozier Road and after approximately 2.5 miles passes Pinson Mounds. At 4.0 miles along its length it passes through Five Points and becomes Diamond Grove Road. Diamond Grove Road continues for 3.9 miles and then makes a right turn onto Mifflin Road and in 0.4 of a mile passes the southern terminus of SR 198 before passing into Chester County at the 10.3 mile mark or 2 miles from SR 198. It then terminates in Mifflin at SR 200. Pinson is an unincorporated community in Madison County, Tennessee. It lies along U.S. Route 45 between Jackson and Henderson, just north of the Chester County line, and State Route 197 also passes through the community. It is included in the Jackson, Tennessee Metropolitan Statistical Area. Pinson is the site of the Pinson Mounds, the largest Middle Woodland period Indian mound group in the United States, and the Pinson Mounds State Archaeological Park dedicated to their study. Demographics History In 1820, a group of five surveyors including Joel Pinson and Memucan Hunt Howard discovered a Middle Woodland period platform mound in the Pinson area while surveying land grants for Colonel Thomas Henderson. Beech Bluff is an unincorporated community on the east-central edge of Madison County, Tennessee, United States. The area ZIP code is 38313. History The area which is now Beech Bluff was first inhabited by the Chickasaw, from whom an earthwork remains. In 1852, a post office was established at Beech Bluff, which was then also known as Homer and used as a summer resort. After a section of the Tennessee Midland Railway was built through the area between 1888 and 1890, the name of the community was officially settled as Beech Bluff, deriving its appellation from a large grove of native beech trees near a local bluff. By 1897, the population had grown to approximately three hundred. The community was historically home to a high school, founded as a one-room schoolhouse in 1885 and closed during desegregation in 1977. State Route 5 (SR 5) is a north–south state highway in the western part of the U.S. state of Tennessee. Except for the section northwest of Union City, it is entirely concurrent with U.S. Route 45 (US 45) and US 45W. South Fork Of The Forked Deer River
The South Fork of the Forked Deer River is formed at the confluence of Huggins Creek and Tar Creek in the southern part of Chester County, Tennessee, United States. It flows in a generally northern direction and passes just to the east of Henderson. It then runs in a northwesterly direction and enters Madison County and passes near Pinson. Flowing still generally north it passes through Jackson. It continues across Madison County and enters Crockett County, It flows in a northwest direction through the following counties sometimes passing in and out of a county several times. Pinson Mounds State Park
The Pinson Mounds comprise a prehistoric Native American complex located in Madison County, Tennessee, in the region that is known as the Eastern Woodlands. The complex, which includes 17 mounds, an earthen geometric enclosure, and numerous habitation areas, was most likely built during the Middle Woodland period (c. 1-500 AD). The complex is the largest group of Middle Woodland mounds in the United States. Sauls' Mound, at , is the second-highest surviving mound in the United States. The Pinson Mounds are now part of Pinson Mounds State Archaeological Park, one of two archaeological parks in Tennessee (the other being Old Stone Fort near Manchester). State Route 198 (SR 198) is a relatively short, secondary north–south state highway located in West Tennessee. Although this road runs in a generally east to west direction, The Tennessee Department of Transportation has designated this as a north to south highway. Route description SR 198 starts at an intersection with SR 197 in the southeast portion of Madison County. It passes through Beech Bluff at approximately north of its southern end. For most of its entire length it is known as the Beech Bluff Road until it nears the city limits of Jackson. It is then designated as East Chester Street until its termination. Tennessee State Route 200
State Route 200 (SR 200) is a secondary south–north state road located in West Tennessee. Route description SR 200 starts at SR 365 in Henderson in Chester County as Steed Street. It continues into rural Chester County as Mifflin Road where it crosses the South Fork of the Forked Deer River and then passes through unincorporated Mifflin, where it intersects SR 197. After passing through Mifflin it becomes known Garner Town Road and passes into Henderson County. It then passes through unincorporated Garner Town and then becomes known as Life Road before terminating in Lexington at SR 22A.
