State Route 198 (SR 198) is a relatively short, secondary north–south state highway located in West Tennessee. Although this road runs in a generally east to west direction, The Tennessee Department of Transportation has designated this as a north to south highway. Route description SR 198 starts at an intersection with SR 197 in the southeast portion of Madison County. It passes through Beech Bluff at approximately north of its southern end. For most of its entire length it is known as the Beech Bluff Road until it nears the city limits of Jackson. It is then designated as East Chester Street until its termination. It ends in downtown at an intersection with US 70/ SR 1. Beech Bluff, Tennessee
Beech Bluff is an unincorporated community on the east-central edge of Madison County, Tennessee, United States. The area ZIP code is 38313. History The area which is now Beech Bluff was first inhabited by the Chickasaw, from whom an earthwork remains. In 1852, a post office was established at Beech Bluff, which was then also known as Homer and used as a summer resort. After a section of the Tennessee Midland Railway was built through the area between 1888 and 1890, the name of the community was officially settled as Beech Bluff, deriving its appellation from a large grove of native beech trees near a local bluff. By 1897, the population had grown to approximately three hundred. The community was historically home to a high school, founded as a one-room schoolhouse in 1885 and closed during desegregation in 1977. West Tennessee is one of the three Grand Divisions (Tennessee), Grand Divisions of the U.S. state of Tennessee that roughly comprises the western quarter of the state. Tennessee State Route 197
State Route 197 (SR 197) is a secondary west–east state road located in West Tennessee. Route description SR 197 starts at US 45 ( SR 5) in Pinson in Madison County. It crosses the South Fork of the Forked Deer River and is called locally Ozier Road and after approximately 2.5 miles passes Pinson Mounds. At 4.0 miles along its length it passes through Five Points and becomes Diamond Grove Road. Diamond Grove Road continues for 3.9 miles and then makes a right turn onto Mifflin Road and in 0.4 of a mile passes the southern terminus of SR 198 before passing into Chester County at the 10.3 mile mark or 2 miles from SR 198. It then terminates in Mifflin at SR 200. State Route 1 (SR 1), known as the Memphis to Bristol Highway, is a mostly-Unsigned highway, unsigned State highway (US), state highway in the U.S. state of Tennessee. It stretches all the way from the Arkansas state line at Memphis, Tennessee, Memphis in the southwest corner of the state to Bristol, Tennessee, Bristol in the northeast part. Pinson Mounds
The Pinson Mounds comprise a prehistoric Native American complex located in Madison County, Tennessee, in the region that is known as the Eastern Woodlands. The complex, which includes 17 mounds, an earthen geometric enclosure, and numerous habitation areas, was most likely built during the Middle Woodland period (c. 1-500 AD). The complex is the largest group of Middle Woodland mounds in the United States. Sauls' Mound, at , is the second-highest surviving mound in the United States. The Pinson Mounds are now part of Pinson Mounds State Archaeological Park, one of two archaeological parks in Tennessee (the other being Old Stone Fort near Manchester).
