Ted Marcroft
Edward Hollows Marcroft (13 April 1910 – 1975) was an English professional footballer. During his career he played for several Football League clubs. Career Marcroft began his career playing in the Lancashire League for Bacup Borough and Great Harwood where his performances prompted First Division side Middlesbrough to sign him for £200. He made a goalscoring debut in January 1932, earning his side a point in a 1–1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday, but never played another senior game for the club before joining Queens Park Rangers in May 1932. In 1933, he joined Third Division South side Cardiff City in a swap deal that saw George Emmerson move the other way. He featured heavily for the first team, making 28 league appearances during the 1933–34 season, but was released at the end of the campaign. Rochdale ( ) is a large town in Greater Manchester, England, at the foothills of the South Pennines in the dale on the River Roch, northwest of Oldham and northeast of Manchester. Lancashire League (football)
The Lancashire League has been the name of two separate football competitions for clubs based in northern England. Lancashire League (1889 to 1903) The original Lancashire League was formed in 1889, and was established because of the success of the Football League, which had been established just one year earlier. Prime movers in the formation of the league were the officials of Bury Football Club, who had ambitions to set up a regional competition which would be a stepping stone for them and other clubs to gain a place in the Football League. Although the majority of the clubs were based in the county of Lancashire, the league did eventually accept several clubs from neighbouring Cheshire. Additionally from further afield, Workington, from Cumberland, were members for two seasons, while Doncaster Rovers, from Yorkshire, were also to make an application to join. George Emmerson
George Arthur Heads Emmerson (15 May 1906 – 1966) is an English former professional footballer. Career While playing for local side Jarrow, Emmerson was spotted by Middlesbrough and was offered the chance to play league football with the club in 1928. He spent two years at the club, making eight appearances including scoring a hat-trick in his second appearance, a 3–0 victory over Millwall. He moved to Cardiff City in 1930. A regular in the side during his three years at Ninian Park, including being ever-present during the 1931–32 season. In 1933 he was involved in a swap deal with Ted Marcroft which saw him join Queens Park Rangers. The Third Division South of The Football League was a tier in the English football league system from 1921 to 1958. It ran in parallel with the Third Division North with clubs elected to the League or relegated from Division Two allocated to one or the other according to geographical position. Some clubs in the English Midlands shuttled between the Third Division South and the Third Division North according to the composition of the two leagues in any one season. The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions.
