Tarık Galip Somer
Tarık Galip Somer (1926–1997) was Turkish academic. He was born in 1926 in Develi ilçe (district) of Kayseri Province. His father's name was Mehmet and his mother's name was Elmas. He obtained his BS degree in Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, United States, MS in Massachusetts Institute of Technology and PhD in University of Maryland. Following university he worked as a research engineer in Dupont Co. between 1954 and 1956. Academic life After returning to Turkey, he served in Middle East Technical University, Ankara (METU). Between 1958 and 1970 he was the founding dean of Chemical Engineering Department of METU. Between 1973 and 1974 he was the vice rector (president) of METU. Between 1974 and 1976 he was the rector of METU. In the 1976–1977 term he lectured in Technische Hochschule in Darmstadt, Germany, as a visiting professor. Develi
Develi, formerly known as Averak, is a town and district in Kayseri Province in Central Anatolia Region, Turkey. History The historical name of the town is Everek and it is called ''Averak'' (oren, ruin) in Armenian. The historian, geographer, who lived in the fourteenth century, gives the name of the butcher Mustavfi as Davalu. According to him, it was a medium-sized city and its walls were rebuilt by Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin. In the work called Cihannüma, written in the seventeenth century, the name of the town is called Davahlu. According to historical sources, cultural traces of civilizations that lived in Develi between 2500-2000 BC have been found. There is still a need for scientific research in Develi, which hosts many civilizations in the historical process between the Copper Age, the Bronze Age and the Seljuk Period.
