Tartu Ülikooli korvpallimeeskond (English: University of Tartu men's basketball team), also known as Tartu Ülikool Maks & Moorits for sponsorship reasons, is a professional basketball team based in Tartu, Estonia. They are a part of the University of Tartu Academic Sports Club. The team plays in the Estonian-Latvian Basketball League and the Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML). Their home arena is the University of Tartu Sports Hall. University of Tartu teams have won a record 26 Estonian League championships, a record 17 Estonian Cup titles and one Soviet Union League championship. History Founded in 1937 as Tartu Eesti Akadeemiline Spordiklubi (Tartu Estonian Academic Sports Club), the team won the regional tournament and were promoted to the Estonian Championship. Coached by player-coach Aleksander Illi and led by Ralf Viksten, the team won the championship in 1938. Korvpalli Meistriliiga
The Korvpalli Meistriliiga ( en, Basketball Champions League), known as the OlyBet Korvpalli Meistriliiga for sponsorship reasons, is the highest tier level and most important professional basketball league in Estonia. It is controlled by the Estonian Basketball Association. The first Estonian Basketball Championship tournament was held in 1925. During Soviet era (1941–1991) the league was called the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic Championship. After Estonia regained its independence in 1991, the league was reformed as the Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML). The KML, which is played under FIBA rules, currently consists of eight teams. The current KML champions are Pärnu who won their first Estonian Championship in the 2022 KML Play-offs. Ilmar Kullam
Ilmar Kullam (15 June 1922 in Tartu – 2 November 2011 in Tartu) was an Estonian basketball player who competed for the Soviet Union in the 1952 Summer Olympics. He was a member of the Soviet team, which won the silver medal. He played all eight matches. He trained at VSS Kalev in Tartu. He is 191 cm power forward. Tanel Tein
Tanel Tein (born 10 January 1978) is an Estonian former professional basketball player. He was named Estonian Player of the Year in 2008. Tein played one season of college basketball for the St. Francis Terriers. Professional career Tein started his career playing for hometown team Tartu in 1993 and led them to two Estonian championships (2000, 2001) and three Estonian Cups (2000–2002). In July 2003, he signed with Śląsk Wrocław of the Polish Basketball League and the Euroleague, and won the Polish Cup in 2004. Tein subsequently played for Alba Berlin and Dynamo Moscow Region, before returning to University of Tartu in November 2005. He went on to win three more Estonian championships in 2007, 2008, 2010. Triobet/Dalkia (also known as Nybit) was an Estonian professional basketball club founded in 1992 and dissolved in 2008. The club played in the Estonian Korvpalli Meistriliiga. The team won 1 Estonian Cup. The team played its home games at Audentes Sports Center. History Founded in 1992 as Dublant, the team changed its name to Nybit in 1993. In 1998, the team won the Estonian Basketball Cup. Nybit reached the Korvpalli Meistriliiga finals in the 1998–99 KML season and the 2003–04 KML season but failed to win the title. In 2007, the team changed its name to Triobet/Dalkia. The team was dissolved in 2008. The 1999–2000 FIBA Saporta Cup was the thirty-fourth edition of FIBA Europe, FIBA's European professional club basketball system, 2nd-tier level European-wide professional club basketball competition. Kalev (also known as Tallinn Kalev, Korvpalliklubi Kalev) was a professional basketball club from Tallinn, Estonia what was back then part of Soviet Union.
