Ilmar Kullam
Ilmar Kullam (15 June 1922 in Tartu – 2 November 2011 in Tartu) was an Estonian basketball player who competed for the Soviet Union in the 1952 Summer Olympics. He was a member of the Soviet team, which won the silver medal. He played all eight matches. He trained at VSS Kalev in Tartu. He is 191 cm power forward. Elected to the Hall of fame of Estonian basketball in 2010. Club career Started playing basketball in 1938 as a member of Kalev Tartu. Basketball at the Summer Olympics has been a sport for men consistently since 1936. Prior to its inclusion as a medal sport, basketball was held as a demonstration event in 1904. Women's basketball made its debut in the Summer Olympics in 1976. FIBA organizes both the men's and women's FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournaments and the Summer Olympics basketball tournaments, which are sanctioned by the IOC. The United States is by far the most successful country in Olympic basketball, with United States men's teams having won 16 of 19 tournaments in which they participated, including seven consecutive titles from 1936 through 1968. United States women's teams have won 8 titles out of the 10 tournaments in which they competed, including seven in a row from 1996 to 2020. EuroBasket 1951
The 1951 FIBA European Championship, commonly called FIBA EuroBasket 1951, was the seventh FIBA EuroBasket regional basketball championship, held by FIBA. Eighteen national teams affiliated with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) entered the competition, a record number and more than twice the number that had competed two years earlier. The competition was hosted by France, who had taken second place at EuroBasket 1949, behind 1949 hosts Egypt. The Vélodrome d'hiver, Paris was the location of the event. 72 matches were held over the course of the tournament, including the three walkovers caused by Romania withdrawing after the competition schedule had been set. Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, most commonly of five players each, opposing one another on a rectangular court, compete with the primary objective of shooting a basketball (approximately in diameter) through the defender's hoop (a basket in diameter mounted high to a backboard at each end of the court, while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop. A field goal is worth two points, unless made from behind the three-point line, when it is worth three. After a foul, timed play stops and the player fouled or designated to shoot a technical foul is given one, two or three one-point free throws. Tiit Lääne (born 21 October 1958) is an Estonian sportsman and sports journalist. He was born in Jõgeva. In 1986 he graduated from Tallinn Pedagogical Institute in physical education. In youth he exercised many sport disciplines, including decathlon and bandy. He was also a member of Estonian national bandy team. His journalist career began in 1979. 1987-1992 he was special correspondent for newspaper ''Maaleht''.
