Tanga Bay
Tanga Bay (''Ghuba la Tanga'', in Swahili) is a bay in Mkinga District of Tanga Region of Tanzania. The bay is home to Tanga Island and is surrounded in the north by Chongoleani ward, west by Mabokweni and Mzizima wards. To the south is Central and Chumbageni wards. The archaeological survey of the area demonstrated that the Tanga Bay and Amboni Caves regions offer sites worth funding for future excavations. Central, Tanga City Council
Central (''Kata ya Central '', in Swahili) is an administrative ward in Tanga City Council of Tanga Region in Tanzania. Tanga Bay borders the ward on its northern side. Pemba Channel lies to the east, and Mzingani, Usagara, Ngamiani Kaskazini, and Majengo ward are to the south. The Chumbageni ward is to the west. Swahili Language
Swahili, also known by its local name , is the native language of the Swahili people, who are found primarily in Tanzania, Kenya and Mozambique (along the East African coast and adjacent litoral islands). It is a Bantu language, though Swahili has borrowed a number of words from foreign languages, particularly Arabic, but also words from Portuguese, English and German. Ulenge Island
Ulenge Island officially, Ulenge Island Marine Reserve (''Kisiwa cha Hifadhi Akiba cha Ulenge'', in Swahili) is a protected, seasonally habited island in the Tanga Bay of Pemba Channel under the Tanga Marine Reserves (TMRS) with the IUCN category II located within Tanga City Council of Tanga Region in Tanzania. Kwale Island and Ulenge Island are the only islands in the marine reserve that are seasonally inhabited. Of Tanga's whole marine reserves system, Ulenge Island is the most degraded. Ulenge's reefs had the lowest fish numbers and the lowest coral cover and species diversity (5-7%, 16 coral genera). Tanga Island
Tanga Island known during German East Africa as Toten Island in old colonial maps (Swahili ''Toten'', adapted from German ''Toteninsel'', meaning "Island of the Dead") is a small uninhabited and protected island situated north of the city of Tanga's harbour on Tanga Bay in Tanga Region, Tanzania. It is within the Tanga Bay. The island is located entirely with the Tanga Coelacanth Marine Park (TCMP). The island is administered by Tanzania Marine Parks and Reserves. Historical Site The island is a historical site that contains ruins of two Medieval Swahili mosques and tombs. The current name comes from the German word for "dead bodies" alluding to the numerous graves on the island. Until 1854 Toten Island was still inhabited by people.
