Tallinn Old Town Days
Tallinn Old Town Days ( et, Tallinna vanalinna päevad) is a cultural and entertainment festival in Tallinn Old Town, Tallinn, Estonia. The goal of the festival is to introduce Tallinn Old Town to the public. The festival takes place every year in the beginning of summer and lasts about one week. First festival took place in 1982. The festival idea author is sailor Sulev Roosma and he, in turn, got the inspiration from Kiel Week. During the festival, Tallinn Old Town's streets are filled with concerts, exhibitions, theatre plays, fairs and other entertainment activities. Tallinn Old Town
Tallinn Old Town ( et, Tallinna vanalinn) is the oldest part of Tallinn, Estonia. Old Town of Tallinn has managed to wholly preserve its structure of medieval and Hanseatic origin. Old Town represents an exceptionally intact 13th century city plan. Since 1997, the area has been registered in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The old town is bordered by the Walls of Tallinn. Its area is 113 ha and there is a buffer zone of 2,253 ha. The majority of the Old Town's structures were built during the 13th–16th centuries. During World War II, while the German army occupied Estonia in 1941–1944, Tallinn Old Town suffered from several instances of aerial bombing by the Soviet air force. During the most destructive Soviet bombing raid on 9–10 March 1944, over a thousand incendiary bombs were dropped on Tallinn, causing widespread fires, destroying about 10% of the buildings in the Old Town, killing hundreds, and leaving over 20,000 people without shelter. Tallinn () is the most populous and capital city of Estonia. Estonian Encyclopaedia Publishers ( et, Eesti Entsüklopeediakirjastus) was an Estonian publisher which published reference literature (like encyclopedias, atlases) and popular science literature. As of 2009 publisher's main shareholders were Hardo Aasmäe (owned 25.6%), (owned 20.4%), and Ülo Kaevats (owned 12.0%). In 2011 the publisher went bankrupt. However, the bankruptcy proceedings got stuck because the owner of the publishing house's last office, Ülemiste City, confiscated the property in the company's office and sold it to cover the 9,000-euro rent debt. Bankruptcy administrator Tiina Mitt estimated its value at over 4.3 million euros. The location of sold documents, author contracts and books under editing is unknown. Kiel Week
The Kiel Week (german: Kieler Woche) or Kiel Regatta is an annual sailing event in Kiel, the capital of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It is the largest sailing event in Europe, and also one of the largest Volksfeste in Germany, attracting millions of people every year from all over Germany and neighbouring countries. Events Kiel Week is held annually in the last week in June, and opens officially on the preceding Saturday with the official ''Glaser'', followed by the ''Holstenbummel''. The "Soundcheck" is on the Friday before the official opening; it is a music festival across all the stages within the city. Kiel Week, ends with a large fireworks display at 11 p.m. on Sunday, fired from pontoons or the quays at the Howaldtswerke, visible all across the Bay of Kiel.
