Tallinn English College
Tallinn English College ( et, Tallinna Inglise Kolledž) is a co-educational general education school in Tallinn, Estonia with in depth education in the English language. It has elementary, middle and senior levels with students aged from 7 to 18. History The history of the college starts in 1940, when Tallinn Secondary School No. 7 was created by merging Tallinn French School and Jakob Westholm Grammar School. The school was located in the building on Hariduse Street erected for the French Lyceum in 1937. Its name returned to Jakob Westholm Grammar School in 1941 under the German occupation authorities, but its original name was lost again in 1944 when the Soviet occupation was restored. The students had to survive more mergers with other schools. Finally the college became one of the few elite schools specializing in English in Soviet-occupied Estonia. Tallinn () is the most populous and capital city of Estonia. Jüri Krjukov
Jüri Krjukov (5 September 1954 – 18 October 1997) was an Estonian actor. Early life and education Jüri Krjukov was born in Tallinn to Igor Krjukov, an engineer of Russian origin, and Maria Krjukov (née Pirson), who was Estonian. He had an older brother Oleg, seven years his senior. When he was six-months-old, his father died and his mother supported the family by working as a hairdresser. Meeli Sööt (13 September 1937 – 16 March 2024) was an Estonian stage, television, radio and film actress. Early life and education Meeli Sööt was born Meeli Alev in Tallinn to actor Voldemar Alev and Alvine Alev (''née'' Väravas). Riina Sildos
Riina Sildos (born 21 July 1964 in Tallinn) is an Estonian film producer. Sildos was born and raise in Tallinn. After graduating from Tallinn Secondary School No. 7 (now, Tallinn English College). in 1982, she enrolled in the University of Tartu, majoring in Russian language and literature, graduating in 1987 with a dissertation on film semiotics, supervised by Professor Juri Lotman. Sildos continued postgraduate studies the same year at the university's Academy of Sciences. Sildos began her career a film critic for Eesti Rahvusringhääling (Estonian Public Broadcasting). In 1994, she joined Eesti Raadio, where she worked as a senior editor, then programme director until 2000, when she was appointed managing director of the Estonian Film Foundation. Mihkel Raud (born 18 January 1969) is an Estonian writer, music artist, actor, and a former member of the Estonian parliament. He is best known for his book ''Musta pori näkku'' and as a former host of an Estonian talk show on TV3. Rein Lang (born 4 July 1957) is an Estonian politician, a member of the Estonian Reform Party since 1995, and a diplomat. He was the Minister of Culture in Andrus Ansip's third cabinet until his resignation. Personal life Lang was born at Tartu. His father was appointed to work at the Soviet embassy in Helsinki; consequently, Rein Lang grew up partly in Finland, becoming a fluent speaker of Finnish. Kaja Kallas (; born 18 June 1977) is an Estonian politician who has been serving as the prime minister of Estonia since 2021. Yoko Alender (born 13 June 1979, in Tallinn) is an Estonian architect, civil servant and a politician. She is a member of the XIV Estonian Parliament the Riigikogu, and acts as chair for the Environment Committee. She was also a member of the XIII Estonian Parliament in 2015-19. Occupation Of The Baltic States
The Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania were invaded and occupied in June 1940 by the Soviet Union, under the leadership of Stalin and auspices of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact that had been signed between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union in August 1939, immediately before the outbreak of World War II. The three countries were then annexed into the Soviet Union (formally as " constituent republics") in August 1940.
